Confucianism And Daoism Similarities

Confucius and Lao Tzu are great teachers and philosophers of early Chinese history. The founder of Confucianism was Confucius and the founder of Daoism was Lao Tzu. Both Confucianism and Daoism have had a significant effect on Chinese beliefs and practices. Since both of these religions have grown side by side, a great number of similarities exist. Nonetheless, these two religions have different viewpoints on the concept of Dao.
Both of these quotes are interconnected with Dao. Since Dao plays an important role, we need to understand what Dao actually is. According to the Daoist view, everything (from living beings to objects) is a manifestation of the Dao. Each individual needs to abide by a certain law, which in this case is the Dao; “To fulfill the law of our human nature is what we call the moral law [Tao].” Unlike the Confucius view, Lao Tzu states that an individual doesn’t have a responsibility to change his/her circumstances and should follow what the Dao has prescribed upon him/her. He states that, “The Master gives himself up to whatever the moment brings”. For example, Confucianism encourages education as it cultivates ones virtues. Daoist believe that training and education destroys ones pure state. As a result, I agree with the Confucius view. I believe education guides an individual and develops ones skill rather than destroying ones pure
