Education is evolving due to the impact of the Internet. Change is necessary to engage students; this generation of students has the advantages of instant knowledge that previous generations did not have. Academic facilities, specifically nursing, are slowly adjusting to technological advances in education and are hesitant in accepting online courses as a creditable source of teaching. The purpose of this study is to compare traditional, face-to-face nursing education to education delivered through online classes. As modern as online education is, does it offer any benefits, academically or otherwise, to participating students? Many institutions have conducted studies to answer this very question. The results appear to suggest that in …show more content…
Nonetheless, the mark of a wonderful nurse is not necessarily limited to academic success (although this success is very important). In a perfect world, people would be accommodated to pursue any dream which promotes the security of society and which does not negatively affect any of its members. The reality is that many students, on top of studying diligently in order to eventually be qualified to help the world through the nursing profession, must work in order to support themselves financially. This is not inherently a negative thing; however, many students, as evidenced by studies, which will later be elaborated upon, often find themselves overwhelmed by their daily struggles to balance schoolwork, physical attendance and their means of income. It cannot be assumed that all of these students would grow to become bitter due to stress, but it also must be considered that these students could have their moments of doubt and weakness. What began as a passion to help humanity could end as a way to obtain a weekly paycheck; a tentative possibility is that the future nurses of this country may view their patients as mere sources of income. In any other field, this may not be such a bad thing. An apathetic salesman may not dramatically increase the revenue of the employing company, but as long as the quota is met, no major problems arise. However, the
“Constant attention by a good nurse may be just as important as a major operation by a surgeon.” There was a girl who had always wanted to become one of importance, education, and also a contributor in her community. She feels that this occupation will assist her in living comfortably, providing for her family, and will be something she will enjoy doing. The career of a Registered Nurse is a challenging and important career, because of the importance one holds within a community. The research will describe the career of a Registered Nurse, what is required to become a successful, and the impact this career has on society.
Nursing is an excellent career choice, where an individual acquires great gratitude while attending to others necessities. If someone is constantly trying to improve themselves and wanting to be challenged in life, “as nurses, we face tremendous challenges and often see and do things that are extraordinary” (Ulrich xix). By becoming a registered nurse the individual will make a difference. Nursing allows an individual to continuously be benefiting a fellow human being, not only with the patient but with their families as well, having the opportunity to becoming someone especial in the patient’s life. Nursing is a
The expectations for any nursing student, dedicated and compassionate, is not easily found. A hard worker is made through the experience of rigorous academic courses, balanced with character building
The nursing profession is a challenge. As a nurse, you must remember every day that you can both alleviate suffering patients by administering treatment prescribed by a doctor and by a good word and a smile. For a good nurse should not matter how hard the day was, how much trouble it encountered, but must remember the core values of the profession and why he/she chose this profession. Nurses play an important role in the healthcare system. This is why they have been correctly referred to as the heart
The authors analyzed statistics of online learning to determine what they mean. They looked at the growth of online options in institutions. They also compared online learning with traditional learning to determine if it was as effective.
With all the publicity over online courses, great professors alike have been determined to find out whether online courses are just as effective as face-to-face classes. There have been some controversies over the situation; therefore, several studies have been made. One study by Adam Driscoll, Karl Jicha, Andrea Hunt, Lisa Tichavsky, and Greatchen Thompson shows that given the appropriate pedagogy or instruction, online courses is just as an effective teaching format as face-to-face classes (Driscoll, Jicha, Hunt, Tichavsky, & Thompson, 2012). The study showed that when comparing online courses against face-to-face courses, the midterm scores for both teaching platforms are the same. Given that the GPA of the students is taken into consideration, the test grades do not improve or become worse when the class is taken online. The same study showed that when comparing online courses to face-to-face courses, the student satisfaction does not increase or decrease when
It is important to understand that nursing is not only about helping the sick but it is also about helping the healthy individual. A nurse can do that by preventing any illness, which he or she can do by educating the population. It takes a special person to be a nurse, but it is a very rewarding career. It is a great feeling to know that you made a difference in the patient or even the patient’s family member’s lives. By receiving a master’s degree the nurse is able to give the patient more current and quality care. The patient’s family trusts you with the loved one’s life, it is a humbling experience, but it can also be nerve-racking.
Nowadays, education becomes one of the important things in human life. Most people are aware of the necessity of a higher education. In this present day with the technology there are more options to obtain education. Besides attending traditional schools, people can get an online education. Although there is a similarity between online education and traditional education, the differences between them are more noteworthy.
According to Barbara Means, the study’s lead author and an educational psychologist at SRI International, online education ultimate goal, is to provide learning experiences that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in classrooms. That enables more “learning by doing,” which many students find more engaging and useful.
Learning is more than just receiving information. Traditionally learning was to be in campus, where students would interact with one a another, there were no other ways for learners to get educated beside going to the classroom and listening to the instructor. Nowadays the Internet has brought different ways for people to receive information, such as getting education and degrees online. A few years ago online education was never thinkable, and yet it has become to reality and it is widely expanding with popularity. Online education is a type of educational instruction that delivers learning to individuals to their own homes, and it is getting very popular among nontraditional student and others. Individuals prefer online education
Many influences can draw a person to choose a pathway to their career. Three research articles are reviewed and will be discussed. The main points that are reviewed in all of the articles is altruism, the concern for the welfare of others, the ability to work with others, ability to travel, salary, knowing someone who is a nurse, career with many opportunities, job satisfaction and stability. Of the interviewed nursing students and registered nurses, job satisfaction was correlated with the interesting work an individual can do employed as a registered nurse. Some factors that were further examined did not have a strong impact on the decision of becoming a nurse but is still significant. For instance, working in health is a factor that persuaded some students to choose nursing. These individuals had the idea of working in healthcare but decided to study nursing to see their options. Another factor that is not as common is to study nursing based on a friend’s decision (Wilkes et al, 2014). Many of the study subjects also found that nursing is a rewarding career because it gives you a sense of purpose and allows you to make a difference in someone’s life. In other cases, nursing may be used as a stepping stone into another career like medicine, physiotherapy, or occupational therapy (Eley et al, 2012). On the other hand, certain individuals have always aspired to become a nurse. Other important factors include being a part of a team, a recommendation from someone, not being
Online education is a type of distance learning. The student is taking courses without attending a school or university. Instead, online students and teachers interact over the Internet. Online classes can teach students educational responsibility. By forcing them to access the online portal to participate in reading the textbooks/lectures and doing the assignments. Technical abilities is also learned with online classes. Students who lack the tech savvy knowledge can learn how to navigate through the online environment. Being able to access the online portal at any given time of the day is one other benefit to online education. Though online education may seem beneficial, there are more negatives than
Technology is changing every aspect in our lives, even the way we learn. Online classes are a rapidly growing trend it today’s society. Online classes are a cost-effective substitute for traditional courses and more convenient for many, so more schools and universities are offering this option. Due to the increase in online course enrollment, people are questioning if students truly learn something from online classes because it’s not a traditional learning environment. Online classes are just, if not more, effective as traditional classes because grades have increased and online discussions provide students with the chance to interact through networking while earning a degree for less than what it would cost to enroll at the same university.
Education has undergone significant changes because of the development of information and communication technology over the 21st century (Lin & Jou, 2012:2). As a convenient and inexpensive way to gain knowledge while pursuing higher education, online learning, a form of training or teaching that takes place over the Internet, has been considered as an alternative to traditional classroom learning (Zhang et al, 2004). This essay will argue that even though online learning has benefit such as flexibility which could outweigh traditional learning, traditional classroom learning might still not be entirely replaced. This essay will discuss positive and negative aspects of online and traditional learning in terms of four criteria:
Andrew Simoncelli once said, “Students who take online classes must be motivated, independent learners.” This is relevant because independence and motivation is what it takes to succeed in an online course. Online learning will not only expand what students learn, but will also bring a number of positive changes in the way students are taught. Courses online have changed everyone’s look at learning all over the world. It allows more opportunities for observers to learn online rather than learning in class. Another affirmative of taking an online course is flexibility and convenience. Students who would like to experience some of these ideas should look into an online class!
