In fact, according to an article by Senior Care Marketer, “The senior care industry is booming and it’s just getting started as the baby boom generation cares for their aging parents and require care themselves as they transition into their own senior years. People sixty-five years and older represent the fastest-growing age group in the United States, and it is projected that the 75+ population will increase 70% by 2025. By 2030, 70 million Americans will be over the age of 65 – that's one out of every five Americans!”(Senior Care Marketer). With that said, there a number of competing firms that are seeking to reap the benefits of this growing industry. Overview Company History and Background As previously mentioned, Sunrise Senior Living Inc. was founded by Paul and Terry Klaassen more than 25 years ago. The idea for this now successful business originated in Holland where Paul Klaassen would visit his grandparents as a child. Paul’s grandparents lived in assisted living homes called verzorgingstehuizen. These assisted living homes are very similar to those offered by Sunrise today. The verzorgingstehuizen allowed its residents to be independent while simultaneously providing support or
Nursing homes and assisted facility homes are all examples of long term care facilities. These facilities are usually targeting individuals who are of geriatric age or need around the clock care (mental health and physical health). The residents in these communities have access to individually-tailored levels of individual or group-centered activities, programs, and assistance whether it is with home or personal care. Long term care facilities are generally for those who are unable to manage independently in the community. Specific types of long-term services include nursing homes, hospice care, home health agencies, and residential care facilities. The goal of these programs is to make sure each patient has a safe and comforting environment

Challenges with oversight and regulations will be discussed as well as solutions to the problem. Challenges and solutions for staffing and training issues will also be discussed. Team B chose to cover Emeritus at Harbour of Pointe Shores, a senior community located in Ocean Shores, Washington. The team was interested in learning more about an assisted living and rehabilitation facility. It is also an opportunity to uncover the differences from an assisted living community and a skilled nursing facility. Emeritus at Harbour of Pointe Shores provides retirement and assisted living, respite services, and on-site rehabilitation. Similar to other long-term care facilities, the facility and staff are required to follow specific guidelines and regulations to maintain licensing and accreditation. However, these
I attended Tabitha Square Gardens for my service learning. Tabitha Square Gardens is an assisted living facility in Crete. Assisted living is a philosophy of service that focuses on maximizing each resident's independence and dignity. This emphasizes flexibility, individualized supportive services and health care. Involvement of the community, as well as the residents' family, neighbors and friends is encouraged. The availability of staff to meet scheduled and unexpected care needs is a major aspect of assisted living caregiving. Assisted living serves a broad range of elderly (70 to 90+ years of age) becoming, in effect, a bridge between active retirement living and, for some, care in a nursing facility. Here I met Lillian and Jacky, both

Long-term care healthcare delivery will be a great/popular option for many of these senior citizens. The long-term care healthcare delivery system falls within the continuum of care. The continuum of care is a series of heath care services that are provided to a great number of older adults who are in need of them throughout the course of their life/older life. The care ranges from: personal care, custodial care, restorative care, skill nursing care, and sub acute care (Shi & Singh, 2012). Different providers work together within the continuum to provide the right care to those in need. The continuum of care, as stated in Long Term Care: Managing Across the Continuum, is “comprehensive, integrated, and client-oriented”(Pratt, 2010). All the services offered should be client-based and cater to the client’s needs and suitable care. The client should be able to obtain services when it is needed from the provider, making it comprehensive. All the different long-term care providers should be interconnected between one another, because their goal is all the same, which is to care for the client’s needs. The continuum of care consists of: nursing facilities, sub acute care, assisted living, residential care, elderly housing, and a variety of community-based services (Pratt, 2010). All these different providers work together to care for the individuals within the health care industry, creating the continuum and making it integrated. As the future progresses and a great amount of

The Topic of my research paper is How to Start Your Own Assisted Living Business. I choose this topic because I have some experience in the health care field. I am a certified Medical Assistant and I wanted to take my education to the next level. The Health care job market is on high demand and is one of today’s most dynamic fields with a wide range of opportunities. I came to realize that the older you get in this country options for housing, health and personal care services become limited.
“Her direct, no-nonsense style was often seen as confrontational, and many found her to be intellectually intimidating. On several occasions she had openly chastised staff members with whom she took issue. …Shirley demanded perfection from her staff but also held herself up to the very highest level of performance expectation” (Longest, Darr, 2010). Nonetheless successful at Grasslands, the board appointed someone else for the place of CEO and Shirley moved on. After Shirley Carpenter came on as Chief Executive Officer for Westmount Nursing Home, the nursing home chain has picked two more nursing homes, increasing the amount of beds for the chain. A year after Shirley started the home started a goal of becoming the “home of choice” to the tri-state area. The idea and marketing strategy was the Westmount would the “one stop shopping” for the elderly. (Longest, Darr, 2010). At Westmount Nursing they would be able to accomplish all the things they need. With the four different divisions they are able to provide the services that the elderly need and require all in one place. Shirley made changes that were seen all across the nursing homes. Before Shirley started at Westmount, the nursing home chain was threatened to lose its licensure, however, Shirley helped dissuade the threat. She reorganized the structure of the nursing, which included add the four different divisions. She also started an asset diversification program to help from relying on revenues from
