“The scars and stains of racism are still deeply embedded in the American society.” US Representative, John Lewis said this in his return to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial he spoke on 54 years ago, during the March on Washington. Racism has been around since the beginning of time, but it is not human nature. Racism is something that is taught, and given the amount of time that has passed since To Kill A Mockingbird and the March on Washington, one would think that racism wouldn’t be a serious issue any more. Although race relations have improved along with other social issues from the time of To Kill Mockingbird, racism and discrimination are major problems in today’s society.

Pennies should not be made anymore. The penny costs more to make then they are worth. It’s not worth carrying around, it’s to bulky. The penny could round prices down.

Most people believe that America can never reach racial and social equality because of the Civil Right Movement, Civil War, economically, etc. In Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” there were many racist remarks made against blacks. There are characters like Aunt Alexandra and Bob Ewell who have discriminated African Americans. The prejudice comments said by people can affect others and their reaction to them. Also, today there are many blacks being discriminated or even harmed based on their race. Racial and social equality is not attainable because of the opinions people have made according to their superiority.

Discrimination has afflicted the American society since its inception in 1776. The inferiority of the African American race – a notion embedded within the mindset of the white populace has difficult to eradicate – despite the efforts of civil rights activists and lawmakers alike. Many individuals are of the opinion that discrimination and racism no longer exist and that these issues have long since been resolved during the Civil War and the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. However such is not the case. Discrimination is a complex issue – one that encompasses many aspects of society. The impact of discrimination of the African American race is addressed from two diverse perspectives in the essays: “Notes of a Native Son” by James Baldwin and “Letter from Birmingham Jail” by Martin Luther King .

Yahoo announced in 2013 that it would no longer offer the option for employees to work remotely. Although technology has evolved and created the ability to work remotely, productivity can diminish if management is not in place to accommodate and support the endeavor. If implemented properly, companies can benefit from employees working remotely by realizing cost savings of office space and utilities, employee retention and broadening their candidate pool. However, working remotely will fail due to management oversite, not hiring the right people, and a lack of communication and collaboration between the company and its employees. In my opinion, Yahoo messed up…big time!

“[Martin Luther King Jr.] was famous and he lived and gave his speeches and he died and now he’s gone. But we’re still here. Don’t tell students in this school about ‘the dream’” (44). In Savage Inequalities Jonathan Kozol quotes Christopher: a student of the underfunded, mostly black Clark Junior High School in East St. Louis. Christopher’s statement insinuates that efforts to eliminate a people’s racism can be futile. A similar point arises in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird when a black man is convicted by a white jury for a crime he did not commit. A theme that one may derive from both of these works is that discrimination can blind one to others’ circumstances, affecting an individual’s decision-making. Yet, America has failed to show social equality to every race, religion, and gender since the known article was created. Throughout the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and in society today, social equality is not demonstrated in the novel nor in the present.

Across the nation and world assisted suicide is an issue that has been gaining attention for several years. With famous cases such as Jack Kevorkian it has become a household term and everyone has an opinion. There are strong cases on both sides, but the bottom line is while it may sound good for the present, it is not for the future. Assisted Suicide should not be legalized in Alabama as the negative outcomes far exceed the positive outcomes in the areas of impact on society, politics and medical education

Many schools don't have enough funds to support themselves; therefore they should use their money to fix buildings and to buy new textbooks. According to Amanda Ripley’s article, “It's Time To Scale Back,” maintaining a grass field can cost more than 20,000 dollars (11). Premont Independent School was threaten to close because of money issues so they had to stop the sports teams and by doing this they were able to save 150,000 dollars (10). Schools should stop using their money on sports and start using it on the school. In conclusion schools should save their money for more important things. Although saving money is important, allowing kids to study for a longer time is also crucial for their education. Ripley stated in her article that by

They Say I Say is extremely useful in learning how to write argumentative papers because the authors discuss the “I say” of an argumentative paper by providing many real life examples and templates for new writers to experiment with. For example, on page 60, templates are provided for disagreeing with an argument and using reasoning.
