Are People Responsible For Romeo And Juliet's Death?

The only people responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death are Romeo and Juliet. That is, because of their impatience and ignorance. (Although I do believe some other characters are at fault, I am only doing Romeo for this essay.) Things would have been so different if they had just waited five minutes. For example, if Romeo had waited for Friar Lawrence to arrive and explain what’s going on, before fighting with Paris and killing himself, he would have seen Juliet alive. This action puts Romeo at fault because he failed to use logic, any other person would have made Friar Lawrence explain why Juliet is “dead”. “These violent delights have violent ends And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, Which as they kiss consume: the sweetest honey Is loathsome in his own deliciousness And in the taste confounds the appetite: Therefore love moderately; long love doth so; Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow.” (Act II, Scene VI) In this quote, Friar warns Romeo to slow down by explaining that going too fast is just as bad as going too slow. The quote is interrupted by Juliet running in and hugging Romeo, which causes Romeo and Friar to forget their conversation and begin the wedding ceremony. She also wasn’t raised properly, her mother didn’t care about how she felt, but about her marriage status (same with her father). Because he gave her love no one else had given her, Juliet cared more about Romeo than anyone else. So when Romeo died, she believed she had nothing else to live for and killed herself. Part of the blame goes to Juliet because instead of creating a backup for their risky plan or waiting until the letter reached Romeo to put herself to sleep, she took action quickly which caused Romeo to think she was actually
