Dear Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated: I am seeking membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated because I want to grow and become an exceptional black woman. I want to be a part of a sisterhood where I can be able to express myself, and see the greatness in ourselves reflected in each other. The Gamma Theta chapter of Alpha Kappa Sorority Incorporated goals and ladies embody everything that I want to be in my life. Throughout my freshman and sophomore year I observe and attended many events. I thoroughly enjoyed them, and I respect how active Gamma Theta is on campus. Most of the women that I know that are members of Alpha Kappa Alpha are hardworking and dedicated. I can relate to these ladies because nothing …show more content…
My mother always told, “Verline you have to run faster and jump higher to be the best.” My mother emigrated from Haiti and my father from Dominican Republic. I am a trilingual speaker. I am fluent in French, Spanish, and English. My father and mother came to the United States for a better life for my siblings and me. Being the youngest of eight children, where six didn’t attend college brought a lot of pressure in proving to my family that I am going to be successful. While my mother juggled two jobs and attended night classes it was my community that stepped in and help me evolve into the young woman I am today. I gave back to my community when I entered high school, and I began by volunteering at the YMCA I attended. My position switched from an attendee, to a volunteer, and now a camp counselor. I was so excited to take on a leadership role because I wanted to help students find what they are passionate about just as my mentor once did for me. I appreciate the opportunities that my community gave to me. I’ve gained principles, discipline, and tough love from my mentors in my community. Growing up in a large family l learned to share and the importance of relationships. I am beyond grateful to my family and community support for instilling in me the belief that I could do anything, and the sky is the
My purpose for applying to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated is to honor God by serving the Black community with my time, gifts and treasures in partnership with educated Men of character. I humbly accept my call to serve and desire to do so through Omega. I have gratefully been the recipient of several Omega Men’s love which has positively influenced my life. Likewise, I desire to give myself for others. I realize that all promotions come from God and therefore I have no perceived notions about how the fraternity can assist me with achieving my career goals because I trust that the principle of ‘reaping and sowing’ will naturally come to pass as I share in service alongside of Omega. More importantly, I desire the development of manhood
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of my interest in becoming a member of the Nu Zeta chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. My desire to have the opportunity to become a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity incorporated is grounded on encounters, characteristics and the prestige purpose and history of the fraternity.

Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. From my perspective, I encourage myself to maintain a respectable appearance and reputation which doing so inspires me to embrace my self-concept; which helps me confidently excel academically and
Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated have made everlasting effects on my life. Having mentors in this fraternity allowed me to see how every member feels responsible for improving the communities that they are from. They never hesitate to take the leadership roles that are needed to see change. I would like to become a member of Alpha Phi Alpha because it would allow us to share a brotherhood with great men, it will allow me to make valuable connections with other positive men around the world, and it will help me become the best version of myself. My desire to become a member of this fraternity began my freshmen year after I attended the first informational meeting. At this meeting I was able to speak with members and also learn from them. They each have strong leadership characteristics that allow them to serve on executive boards across campus and they all are high achieving students at Cornell.
I know exactly what you are going through. At the beginning of my freshman year, I swore to myself that I would never join a sorority. I thought it was weird, cult-like, and that I didn’t need to pay money to have friends. However, here I am, loving and actively participating in Delta Gamma, a sorority that was reestablished at the University of Arkansas this year. When I first joined, I had certain expectations. I expected for me and some of the members to be somewhat of acquaintances, but thought that most sorority girls were too self- absorbed for me to gain any real, genuine friendships. Basically, I rushed so that I had
National Honor Society truly is a honor to be accepted into. National Honor Society represents scholarship, leadership, service, and character. I believe since I was young I have shown compassion and leadership needed in our society. That is why this is the right society for me.
The Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity provided a voice and a dream for African Americans around the world. For people who were colored at the time this fraternity was created, had to struggle in their everyday life because racism was such a huge focus. Alpha Phi Alpha was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York by seven outstanding African American men who attended college there. They created a strong bond and brotherhood in the organization and were an inspiration to colored people all over the nation. The seven founders were known as “Jewels” at the fraternity. These seven men were Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy. They were all very intelligent and brave men, a lot of people looked up to them. The fraternity was created and based on colored people who were racially prejudiced socially and educationally. There was one man who caught my eye and found very
"Character, in the long run, is the decisive factor in the life of an individual and of nations alike." Theodore Roosevelt. Students should demonstrate scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character because of three reasons. One, if students demonstrate these qualities they are more likely to get better grades and get reprimanded less. Another, without these traits, a student would have far less opportunities in the future. Finally, as students grow they will gain much more wisdom if they allow themselves to work on demonstrating these characteristics. Overall, these qualities are very important in the present, and in the future.
In fifth and sixth grade, I was invited to attend The National Young Leadership Forum, an organization dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented youth. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to spend a week in Washington D.C., where I learned the qualifications of a righteous leader and to develop academic abilities and interests. I will bring my knowledge of leadership to sustain a school community in which students will strive to maintain integrity and trust with each other. By engaging in community service, I have an opportunity to learn experientially, expose myself to diversity, and develop a sense of responsibility. By volunteering in multiple ways in the last several years, I was able to knit hats for children in hospitals, help at a local food bank, create and donate bookmarks for third graders, and help at the Bellaire Public Library. Helping others has given me a great sense of satisfaction and I plan to continue working on various community service projects in the future. Born and raised to Israeli parents, I am benefited with bilinguality, traveling overseas, exposure to other cultures, and insight on global
When I first accepted my bid for Sigma Alpha Epsilon, I told myself I would not be a bystander. I knew that you can get much more out of the fraternity depending on how much you put into it. From day one, I made sure that I would do whatever is needed to make my experience as a brother worth it. I immediately began to learn the True Gentleman as well as the history of the Fraternity. I did not want to wait for someone else to have to teach it to me because I saw the significance and the importance that it means to the brotherhood as a whole. One thing I noticed when I joined was that our campus involvement was not as strong as it could have been. I told myself I would get involved with all the events such as participating in different philanthropies or attending different events on campus to help
Delta Sigma Theta provides a platform for women to support local and international efforts while engaging with a diverse group of dynamic women. I thrive in environments in which the fruits of our labor results in the uplift of my community. My talents and the experiences I've gained working in a large community based organizations like Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and Links, Inc., showcases my willingness and abilty to contribute to a purpose much larger than myself. Additionally, Delta Sigma Theta's emphasis on education and physical and mental health parallels with my professional and personal interests. Delta Sigma Theta has a rich legacy of being change makers in the community they serve. If granted membership I hope to not only
I think the purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc is to cultivate and inspirit high scholastic and ethical standards among college women. I also believe the purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is to alleviate quandaries concerning girls and women in order to help improve their convivial stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college likeness and to serve the community. commitment, confidence, being flexionable, being able to work with people, honesty, integrity. I think I would contribute a lot to a sorority in terms of academics, creative, vocally,
Joining this organization was never something that I thought I would do. In high school, I had been a cheerleader for two years and it generally turned me away from the thought of joining another all-female group because of the negative experiences I ended up having in cheer. What I found in Alpha Phi was a group of dedicated and hilarious women who, even though they shared the same name of Alpha Phi, still held on to their individuality. I was taught once again to find a love of myself, but this time rather than being pushed away as I had when I left my religion, I found a
As a young child, I had the opportunity to move from Brasil to America. Although it was a challenge, I overcame many obstacles that allowed me to grow as a person. The language barrier was difficult, but with dedication, I was the first to graduate out of my English as a Second Language class. I grew a strong bond with other Hispanics throughout that time, which further helped form a passion to help Hispanic countries through Hugs 2 Honduras, a club that focuses on fundraising to help communities in Honduras. Along with Hugs 2 Honduras, I participated in the fundraising process for Westfield’s first Dance Marathon. After raising some money for the event, I took a leading position with some other senior girls in a program called Kind Campaign. This program was created to bring awareness to girl-on-girl bullying, and the senior girls led the freshman
