Tyler Pell Ms. Long Advanced Studies Artificial Intelligence – Research Paper Over the year the work field has changed in many ways. With emerging technologies it is hard not to see the incorporation of electronics into everyday business functions. We all use calculators, computers, cell phones, email, text, and tablets to assist us with everyday business task. With technology evolving at an exponential rate the question is “how far do we go?” We have all heard the saying “work smarter not harder.” Many companies have taken this to the extreme by making systems that can work without input from a person. They have come to call these systems artificial intelligence. With these new systems we are now able to complete task without a person on the job. So now we need to ask ourselves, “are we ready to trust computers to do our work for us?” Artificial intelligence is commonly defined as the “science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs.” (McCarthy np). Artificial intelligence research began during WWII by John McCarthy. It was in 1956 that McCarthy actually organized a conference to discuss the idea of AI system. (“The History of Artificial Intelligence” np). Alan Turing was also another significant contributor to the AI field. He developed what we now know as the Turing Test. It was essentially a test to determine if a system was classified as a true AI. This is where we began to see these systems entering the work field.
Artificial Intelligence is the taking over of machines to do tasks that would normally require a human to do. The idea of artificial intelligence has been around for years, appearing in movies and television shows to show what the future might bring. Artificial intelligence is becoming closer to a reality and now society must question if it should have a role in society. Artificial intelligence has many flaws at the moment making it impractical for use until society can address the issues facing it like the loss of jobs and how to control the use of AI.
When someone brings up the term “artificial intelligence”, a variety of connotations tend to arise, connotations that often are unfair or unrepresentative of the true real-world applications of such a term. Due to the incidentally fear-mongering nature of the media, artificial intelligence can refer to something as basic as a robotic arm in a factory, as well as the implied extinction and/or enslavement of the human race as caused by robo-revolution. As of today, however, when applied in the world of modern technology, artificial intelligence is defined as any innovation that performs a task usually completed by humans. Of course, with this definition, artificial intelligence holds the potential for both societal harm and benefit, and its fate
Artificial intelligence or AI is in simple terms, the ability for a computer to learn on its own, without any input from the user, and it has the ability to think on its own and make its own decisions and is also able to understand human intelligence. This is done by using tools in many fields. These fields include, but are not limited to computer science, natural language and speech, machine learning and patter recognition, and computer vision (Luke Muehlhauser, 2014). This also includes psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, economics, probability, and optimization and logic. These are only the beginnings of what is required to meet what is needed to even to begin to scratch the topic of
What is Artificial Intelligence or AI? Why people are so concerned about its impact on the human job market and what is the hype about AI? To describe AI in basic terms, it is a branch of Computer Science which is concerned with the study and creation of computer systems. AI refers to “machines that respond to simulation consistent with traditional responses from humans, given the human capacity for contemplation, judgment and intention. It
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the branch of computer science, which concentrates on the intelligence of machines, and involves applying the principles of reasoning, knowledge planning, learning, communication, perception, and controlling objects to emulate the human brain. The most recognizable AI application is robotics from Hollywood cinema, and includes films such as; I Robot, Transformers, Wall-e, WarGames, A.I., The Terminator, Robocop, Iron Man, and Star Wars to name a few, which is fictional not an actual representation of AI. Robotics applications is only one of three aspects of AI, which also includes
One of the biggest controversies with the advancement of artificial intelligence is the debate on job automation. Many people believe that artificial intelligence will advance to become better than humans and replace humans in most jobs. The opposite belief is that AI will be used to improve the standard of living and will be a tool to support humans, not replace them. Job automation has many benefits such as performing more dangerous jobs and complete tasks that humans do not desire to do. Even though job automation has benefits, there are many people who believe robots will take over the job market and the unemployment rate will skyrocket. There are multiple supporting factors for each side of the job automation debate, but the argument will never be settled until AI is further advanced and utilized.
Artificial intelligence is the development of a computer system that is able to perform tasks of human intelligence like visual perception, speech recognition, and decision-making. Computer scientists have made a substantial advancement in the
The first step in getting anywhere with this debate must begin with defining what artificial intelligence is exactly. Artificial Intelligence, also known as AI, is the area of computer science focusing on creating machines that can engage in the human behaviors of intelligence.
Nearly all jobs, blue and white collar alike, will eventually be automated by a worker who never makes mistakes, never needs to stop working, and can learn faster than any human alive. This is the future we face, according to Kevin Kelly, writer of “Better Than Human: Why Robots Will — And Must — Take Our Jobs.” Kelly discusses the future of machines doing our work for us. Kelly believes that all jobs currently occupied by humans will eventually be taken over by machines, and humans will benefit from the results. While Kelly presents engaging arguments, his examples and writing style are ineffective in fully demonstrating his view of automation in the workplace.
He had a unique way of seeing the world around him, allowing him to solve complex problems. Solving these problems allowed him to pioneer the fields of computer science, artificial intelligence, and artificial life. All of these fields have changed our world in unimaginable
Alan Turing was an computer scientist, mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst, philosopher, and theoretical biologist. He was very influential in theoretical computer science. He is considered as a father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. He invented Turing Machine, a theoretical machine that could
Artificial intelligence, or AI, is a field of computer science that attempts to simulate characteristics of human intelligence or senses. These include learning, reasoning, and adapting. This field studies the designs of intelligent
The discussion of "artificial intelligence" is ultimately based on the development of computers. As early as 1930s, Turing, a scientist, tried to make an intelligent machine in his short life in accordance with his computational theory and even hoped to prove his theory-Any wisdom. After all, it was nothing but an extremely complicated operation. All of Turing's explorations focus on "wisdom," while the concept of "artificial intelligence" (Artificial Intelligence) was co-sponsored by John McCathy and Marvin Minsky. They also co-founded MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the world's most influential scientific research facility. If Turing's "Wisdom Machine" focuses on using the machine to implement one of the six major human intelligence functions, such as vision, language, learning, computing, reasoning, and cognition, Minsky argues that the problems facing the development of artificial intelligence is that if the machine has not yet solved the problem of human beings, because once any problem can be solved by the machine, human beings will automatically remove the field of artificial intelligence to explore.
Artificial intelligence is a concept in computer science in which scientist develop programs to possess intelligent human characteristic such as the ability of human cognition. Artificial Intelligence (A.I) has developed over many years and has incorporated into our daily lifestyle; these include voice recognition/ assistance such as Siri and Cortana. Another example is our interactive devices to flying drones to Amazon Prime for delivery. They use Wi-Fi-sensors to control the activity of drone to perform certain actions such as delivering packages and much more.
According to the website Science Fiction and Fantasy World, artificial intelligence (A.I.) can be defined as "the
