Climate change is also now widely accepted to be due to the carbon dioxide and greenhouse gasses produced when burning fossil fuels which we have come to rely upon for most of our world wide power. Peak Oil is the peak of the availability/supply of the world’s oil, originally anticipated in the next ten years. However due to population and overwhelming economic growth in developing countries such as China in the last few years, the date of Peak Oil is now considered to be in the next five years, affecting oil prices and availability. Oil is one our fundamental power sources, its loss and replacement will trigger social and technological change, affecting individuals, businesses and the economy dramatically. UK businesses will be under increased pressure to change their practices due to increased costs of using traditional fossil fuel power sources in their heating and cooling systems, manufacturing and transportation processes. Green taxes and incentives also motivate business and consumers. These include vehicle tax by emissions, landfill tax, tax on petrol and domestic fuels and incentives included subsidised eco power generators such as wind turbines and solar panels and exemption of tax for smaller, biofuel and hybrid cars. 3.1.2 A driver for change in UK business relating to ethical practice is the increased interest in the publishing of Corporate Social Responsibility reports.
