Chapter 46, Problem 1RQ
How is a zener diode connected in a circuit as compared to a common junction diode?
Expert Solution & Answer
To determine
The comparison between connection of Zener diode and common junction diode.
Explanation of Solution
Consider a diode, when the positive voltage is connected to anode and negative voltage to cathode, the diode is said to be forward biased. When the positive voltage is connected to cathode and negative voltage to anode, the diode is said to be reverse biased.
In general when a diode is broken, the region which the diode enters is Zener region which is considered to be as destroyed. The Zener diodes are specially designed for this operation and they are connected with reverse polarity applied to it.
