When not a cloud is seen above
To fleck the warm untroubled blue,
A little laughing face of love;
In dimpled arms and rosy feet;
No breath of care, no touch of strife,
Has dulled thy glad heart’s rhythmic beat.
By shadows still so little vexed,
That many a weary anxious wight
Grows in thy presence less perplexed.
Frowns pass away at thy caress;
When thy soft arms are round my neck
I feel God’s wondrous tenderness.
