Respectfully Quoted: A Dictionary of Quotations. 1989.

NUMBER: 1355
AUTHOR: Calvin Coolidge (1872–1933)
QUOTATION: Nothing in the World can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
ATTRIBUTION: Attributed to CALVIN COOLIDGE. Unverified, though this appeared on the cover of the program of a memorial service for him in 1933. The Forbes Library, Northampton, Massachusetts, has searched its Coolidge collection many times for this.
