Beauty
By George Reston Malloch (18751953)(From Poems and Lyrics, 1917) |
BEAUTY unattempted, | |
She was my lover: | |
To me, too blessêd, | |
Her white limbs did uncover.
Eyes had fill of rapture, | 5 |
Lips had lips to kiss; | |
Sought I to capture | |
The deepest, deepest bliss.
Then the fiery pang | |
Smote through heart and core: | 10 |
Then the love song rang | |
False, and rose no more.
