Battle of Llongborth
By Llywarch Hên (6th century)Translated by Lady Charlotte Guest
B
I saw steeds fatigued with the toil of battle,
And after the shout was given, how dreadful was the onset.
And the slain drenched in gore,
And red-stained warriors from the assault of the foe.
I saw steeds white with foam,
And after the shout of battle, a fearful torrent.
And an excessive carnage,
And warriors blood-stained from the assault of Geraint.
A valiant warrior from the woodlands of Devon,
Slaughtering his foes as he fell.
