A Shy Child

Louise Redfield

THEY coax and beguile,

As though teasingly

A squirrel in a tree.

You do not speak or smile.

In your eyes flit wise

Thoughts that wonder weaves

Of their silly words;

Safe in your grave eyes,

Safe as little birds

Busy behind leaves.
