Spring-piece

Clement Wood

THE STRAYED cherry tree,

Bewildered by red-brick walls

In the lost by-street,

Is dusted with green.

Its white blossoms push

Long and scented fingers

Into the liquid air.

Clouds of white butterflies

Silently drift,

Like loosened and breathing petals

Seeking the sun.
