August 22St. Andrew of Ireland, Deacon and Confessor
HE was a Scottish or Irish gentleman, who in his youth attended St. Donatus his countryman into Tuscany, that they might serve God unknown in holy retirement. St. Donatus was chosen bishop of Fiesoli in Tuscany; and he ordained St. Andrew deacon; in which ministry he served that church in eminent sanctity. He died about the year 880, is honoured with singular devotion in that country, and is named in several Martyrologies. See his life with Cuper’s comments in the Bollandists on the 22d of August, p. 539. Also Colgan, Act. SS. Hib. p. 237. | 1 |
