Robert Montgomery Bird (1806–1854)

Bird, Robert Montgomery. An American dramatist and novelist; born in Newcastle, DE, Feb. 5, 1806; died in Philadelphia, Jan. 22, 1854. He was the author of three tragedies: ‘Oraloosa’; ‘The Broker of Bogota’; and ‘The Gladiator,’ frequently played by Forrest. His novels include: ‘Calavar’ (1834); ‘The Infidel’ (1835); ‘Nick of the Woods’ (1837); ‘Peter Pilgrim’ (1838); and ‘Robin Day’ (1839).
