Edmond Gondinet (1828–1888)
Gondinet, Edmond (gô
-dē-nā’). A French dramatist; born in Laurière, March 7, 1828; died at Paris, Nov. 19, 1888. His early comedies, ‘Too Curious’ and ‘The Victims of Money,’ were received with a favor which led to his writing regularly for the stage; and the farce ‘Christiane’ in 1871 approved him as one of the first members of his profession. He draws best from Parisian social life: ‘Panazol,’ ‘Papa’s Convictions,’ and ‘The Ladies’ Professor’ afford typical examples. His pieces written in collaboration have yielded enormous royalties, especially ‘The Happiest of the Three.’
