Charles Rockwell Lanman (1850–1941)

Lanman, Charles Rockwell. An American Sanskrit scholar; born at Norwich, CT, July 8, 1850; died in 1941. He studied Sanskrit under Prof. Whitney at Yale, and in Germany; and after 1880 he was professor of Sanskrit at Harvard. He published: ‘A Sanskrit Reader’ (1884), the chief textbook on the subject; and is the projector of the ‘Harvard Oriental Series.’
