Upon the earth,
Voices of love and pride—
Of tears and mirth?
Fading as hearts forget,
As shadows flee!
Vain is the voice of song,
And yet—
I sing to thee!

For, like the shell, it sings—
Sweet Heart—
To thee, of thee!
