Frank J. Wilstach, comp. A Dictionary of Similes. 1916.

Charles L. Moore

Blown apart
Like a rose that ready is
For the sun’s perfecting kiss.

Audacious as the day.

Circling like an eddy.

Cleft like a narrow harvest swath,
O’ernodded by the plumes of wheat.

Disrobed, like a pure image in a secret shrine.

Eyes like setting planets, weak and dim.

Remote as the stars are.

Serene as summer in Arcadian hills.

Shifting like the boundaries of a dream.

Sob, like ocean’s tremor when it turns to ebb.
