Introduction The primary aim of this process was to form part of a group whilst utilising and becoming accustomed to the sophisticated computer software, SimVenture. The software is used throughout various organisations and academic institutions as a means of allowing participating team members to develop a refined skillset, focusing on how to succeed in the virtual start-up of a computer manufacturing business. (SimVenture, 2015) As part of the group forming process, it was essential to ensure that in our chosen group of three members, each team member was to be assigned specific roles as to ensure that we would be to sufficiently complete each task to the best possible standard. The next section aims to briefly discuss the decisions …show more content…
Looking at the next part of the decision making process as a group, we felt that as a group we would aim to focus dedicated time and resources developing solid market research as to begin a well-defined foundation for each game. Once market research was collected, we ensured that before moving forward and running each business ‘month’ that we fully gauged and deciphered each specific target market as to produce and develop the best possible product as to fully cater for needs and demands. Reflecting on the overall process as a whole, as a group we found that certain areas could have been improved upon and as a direct result it could be seen that areas of the simulated business performed relatively poorly. I felt that as time went on we did begin to get a heightened feel for the software however, it is fair to deduce that the group did not fully utilise one another’s overall strengths to our overall benefit. During the last session, we managed to increase sales and orders through the realisation that to succeed we would manufacture a product that fully met consumer demand whilst also being offered at a realistic price. Part B Group Work and Tuckman’s Theory Doel (2000) stated: ‘’Group work refers to a method of social work practice which is concerned with the recognition and use of processes which occur when three or more people work together towards a common practice. (p. 148) Working as a part of a group is an increasingly prevalent practice

Unit Title: 521 Facilitate and development of effective group practice in health and social care or children and young people’s setting
Group work is important in social work as it promotes understanding of the social contexts of people’s lives and identifies strengths of the oppressed to pursue social change (Dominelli 2008).
Haggedorn (2005) defines group work as any activity that involves three or more individuals. The use of therapeutic groups has been a popular intervention technique in Occupational Therapy practice since the 1920’s (Duncan, 2008). Over time and with the influence of varying health care requirements, the nature of group intervention has evolved from activity-focused programmes to groups that implement evidence based practice (Duncan, 2008). The types of groups that are run by Occupational Therapists are many and varied (Bullock & Bannigan, 2011). This is because Occupational Therapists have recognized the numerous therapeutic benefits of group work (Cole, 2012). The purpose is for group members to not only gain from the therapist, but also from interactions with other group members (Creek, 2008). This relates to occupational therapy as group work enables clients to engage in social interactions, develop skills and participate in meaningful occupations; all which are core domains of occupational therapy practice (Bullock & Bannigan, 2011).
Describe the methods that will be used to sell and distribute the products or services
* Conduct market research to determine potential of new games, player demographics and cannibalization effect.

Social group work emerged after the first world war and started out as method committed to empowering individuals though the interaction of others going through similar situtions. While it emerged after the first world war Clara Kaiser (1959) explains that there is not actual birth date to social group work (citied in Glasser & Mayadas, 1986). During the 1920’s group work posed 3 major strands; the individual growing as part of the group, the group developing through specific goals and a way of changing the views of society through group experiences (Glasser & Mayadas,1986). These strands are things that have been reworked in different ways over the years. In 1959 the “National Group Work Practice Committee of the National Association of Social Workers formualted a Frame of Reference” (Glasser & Mayadas, 1986, p.13) for group social work.
In the simulation I am the marketing manager for Thorr Motorcycles a $5 billion company, which manufactures a range of motorcycles, and produces more than 200, 000 units per years (University of Phoenix, 2012). It will be a great challenge, because I will need to formulate a differentiation strategy, also will be dealing with three different scenarios, and working closer with three demanding, and experience co-workers; Benjamin Bao (Chief executive officer), Chris Winter (Chief engineer), and Meredith Kiligore (Vice President Brand communication)
The strategies to fulfill our objectives are to: Identify the potential target customers in two target segmentation, gamers and family members; heavily invest in advertising and promotion to create demand from customers; conducting market research through in store experience, game testing day from focus groups of gamers and journalists from game industry magazine.
Group work allows multiple input into one area of study or topic and thus allows the group to come to a consensus or understanding on that topic.

SimVenture is a business simulation that permitted us to construct and offer PCs through our virtual organization. My group maintained this virtual PC business for three years. My group was in charge of settling on choices about all components of our organization in order to be able to operate in the near future and grow. These decisions are taking into account the capacities of the simulation, which incorporate sales and marketing, operations, associations and finance. We chose to split up the positions. My group included individuals with marketing, finance and knowledge and skills hence every individual from the group was in charge of a specific area.
This week’s key learning areas have definitely taught me patience and perseverance. My experience in the Simulation has trained me to be consistent in my routine while learning the mechanics to develop a strategy. The SWOT analysis is a brainstorming tool that has developed my thought process throughout navigating the game. It is crucial to create a sequence during the Simulation to gain total control of your production. Also, learning from the mistakes that I have made has allowed me to reevaluate my approach and performance. There were two questions posed in our case study: How many weeks would it take to produce an order of 1200 White Socks?; and How many weeks would it take to produce an order of 1200 Polo Shirts? These key areas will be discussed throughout the journal to express my understanding of the experience.
The start of the simulation I named my computer PPC which stands for Powerful Personal Computer because businesses want a computer that is powerful and lightweight to complete the job in a timely manner. Then I picked Mercedes as my first target market and my only priority because I intend to target the top end of the market with high end business users. Next, for responsibilities, I made myself as the President-Overall Leadership and VP-Sales Management because I will be making the overall decisions and decide what position the company will ultimately take. Finally, I opened a sales office in Chicago-NORAM for multiple reasons, first that area has the most Mercedes market, second my small office is also in Chicago which will provide me with greater control, third it seems like a good place to start because it’s not too cheap or too expensive and will churn great profits (right qualities).
