The purpose of the survey is to bring awareness to the need for an understanding of intercultural communication. Everything that happens within a school, and in particular in the classroom, involves communication. Communication is the act of sharing information. On occasion, communication involves the use of oral or written verbal symbols. Sometimes, communication involves various types of non-verbal symbols, including gestures and facial expressions..
Communication is a means for instruction, evaluation, interpersonal relationships, group interactions, parent and community relations and counseling. In order to resolve most behavior issues in schools, you must involve some type of communication. Communication is infused in education.
Communication is based on ones culture. The way a person communicates is derived from his or her culture. Some people may share several characteristics from different cultures. That does not change the fact that: communication is a product of culture.
Students with different cultural norms are at risk if teachers have little knowledge, sensitivity or appreciation of the diversity in communication
Communication involves the teacher 's classroom discourse and interaction that deepens thinking to help students internalize and process subject content (“The Importance of...”). Communicating within the school help with disciplinary actions and
In this regard, the issues about the role and the place of international communication become an integral part of life both for the humankind in general, as well as for the individual. Though being quite turbulent, the actual process of intellectual brainstorming was meant for intercultural communication. This span of time was of great importance for the enlargement and progression of the field. Many intercultural theorists have refrained from analyzing cultures separately (or as compared to cross-cultural); they have to study the interaction between two different cultures. Instead of focusing on individual communication behaviors, they preferred to find out on how the process of communication is affected by different behaviors (Brislin 1982; Gudykunst and Kim, 1984; Samovar et al., 1981). Emphasis was put on the term “intercultural” from the study of what cultural differences meant in terms of intercultural interaction. Studies focusing on behaviors within one particular culture (known as “culture-specific”) had increased the importance of studying communication process across cultures (known as
Communication is the process of exchanging information, thoughts and feelings between people, through speaking, writing or body language. Effective communication is about more than just exchanging information. This concept makes sure that the transmitted message is received and understood by the other person in the exact way it was intended. However the other person has to demonstrate that they have listened and gained full understanding of the message.
Both time and distance serve as important component in effective communication. Language is most important tool in carrying out business activities. It is important to understand cross-cultural verbal and nonverbal communication cues that exist to maintain internal and external relations.
Alberts, Martin and Nakayama (2011) describe communication as “ a transactional process in which people generate meaning through the exchange of verbal and nonverbal messages in in specific contexts, influenced by individual and societal forces and embedded in culture.”(p.7) They then go on to state that intercultural communication “occurs in interactions between people who are culturally different.”(p.122) Cultural differences thus affect many interactions, with the communication process being one.
Language plays a key role in communication in any society, culture and organization. This medium of social interaction is universal and has been passed down for centuries as a legacy. Therefore, it is imperative that the purity of the language is kept within each framework of heritage. Culture also plays a very important role in the evolution of language. It is the foundation of social engagement and personal commitment. Verbal and non-verbal communication can help define the way in which intercultural communication is conducted, and is of significance as it allows for individuals to learn the differences that exist in the language of various cultures. Communication of any magnitude, if fully achieved can be one of the most rewarding experiences, since by learning the language one becomes familiar with the culture.
Communication is one of the most important and central essence of our daily lives, through effective communication we are able to alter ideas, resolve disputes or issues, help and support that are in needs, also it also makes us capable of changing
The contents of this class have helped me learn more about the verbal, and non-verbal communication among different cultures, ethnic groups and societies. We all practice communication some how, but I feel privileged of learning more details about the concepts of interpersonal communications after finishing the course. Each chapter of the book offers a very interesting, and educational instruction about social problems in relation to communication. I enjoyed reading about the roots of the different types of human behaviors. I consider the study of interpersonal communication as a very intellectual discipline that is essential in our daily lives.
Communication and culture share a close-knit relationship with one another. According to authors Sarah Trenholm and Arthur Jenson of “Interpersonal Communication 7th Edition”, communication is “the process whereby humans collectively create and regulate social reality. Culture is a “set of values, beliefs, customs, and codes that bind people
Most teachers in the United States are Caucasian English speakers who do not have much experience teaching students from other areas of the world. The cultural differences that this creates can often put teachers at odds with their students. Sometimes the cultural beliefs of the teachers may even clash with those of the students which can end up preventing the student from having a positive or successful learning experience. These diverse student’s cultural values, beliefs, and norms can be very different from those of mainstream American education and classroom etiquette and the closer the connection is between the teachers instructional style, the curriculum, and the student’s learning style, the better chance there will be that the student will achieve success in the classroom (Manning & Baruth, 2009).
Cultural diversity and acceptance are important to everyone regardless of their major or place in life. Diversity is becoming more and more common in all countries and universities; therefore it is valuable to learn how to properly interact with others. There are many ways in which culture may cause conflict in day to day activities, or arise in a place of work or class. Classrooms present different types of cultural conflict and provide can provide many lessons on cultural diversity to students and teachers. Teachers and educators have to work with students from different cultures and backgrounds, and should be made aware of how that could affect their lesson plans and teaching strategies.

Communication: is incorporated in everyday life, especially at school and within present studies. Communication can have many relationships with other people, a person may have strong relationships with their friends, teachers and families. The teacher and student relationship is when there is a strong relationship between the student and their teacher where they are confident to communicate questions about tasks or assessments to make sure the task is completed to the best of your ability. Communication is a very important part of society as a whole, a community is unable to function without communication. Communication within the council and letting citizens of the community know recent news and updates, also talking between workers and customers. Communicating with neighbours and other members within society is another way of staying up to date on what is going on within the community.
Asides the teacher’s involvement, couple of students from the randomly selected secondary schools also took part in the completion of the survey.
