In order to be successful in taking a test, a person needs to practice and be knowledge in the area of test taking strategies. There is a difference between being well- prepared for a test and doing well on the test. Even though knowing the content of what a person will be examined over is important, there are many additional factors that play in to take a test.
How to Avoid Reading into the Question Whenever you read the question for the first time, never ask yourself the question “what if” or “well” because chances are when you think more than you have to about a certain question, you end up getting the answer wrong. It is always good to focus on the important words such as “immediate, initial, first, priority” because these words are powerful and can change the entire meaning of question if taken out. Another help key is using process of elimination by taking out the answers you know definitely are not correct and then going back and rereading the question. Fill in the blank questions are probably the hardest because you don’t have choices to pick an answer from. Rather than thinking too hard about the various answers going through your mind, take your gut feeling and apply that concept to answer the question being asked.

Someone may get nervous when taking a test, causing him or her to score a lower grade, while on the other hand, someone who feels confident about the test will most likely achieve a higher grade. The main study strategy I used to prepare for the first exam was the use of notecards. I would review my notes after class and translate them to a notecard. In addition to the note cards I wrote notes over the class activities and while reading the online book. I managed my time wisely by setting aside time each day of the week to study, rather than cram studying. I attended tutoring once a week with Bonnie Lamvermeyer to cover key concepts of each chapter we were assigned to read. I also had her tell me what I should focus on while studying my lab manual.
