Unteaching The Five- Paragraph essay by Marie Foley is a light hearted but argumentive piece focusing on the way most school aged children are taught to write. Foley's main point comes down to the very first words in the essay; “The five-paragraph formula confuses and alienates students and undermines our most basic goals as writing instructors." Foley believes that by teaching children to write in a formulated manner we are not letting them explore and learn through their own writing. We are instead giving them the freedom to discontinue the thought process once they feel that the essay they have produced meets the formula standards they have been kept to, and refuse to part with.

Julia Alvarez is an acclaimed American-Dominican poet and author. She has written many successful books and poems, many of which reflect directly on her life and personal experiences. Because of Alvarez’s American-Dominican background, her poems display diverse, cultural themes. These include what it is like to be American and Dominican and the struggles of moving from the Dominican Republic to the United States. Alvarez has received praise for her ability to write a wide variety of styles, including poems, children's books, young adult novels, and essays. Her success, however, has come from her poetry collections, like Homecoming. These collections show her life in the Dominican Republic and her transition to the United States.

In “Breaking the Five-Paragraph-Theme Barrier” professor Thomas Nunnally describes his experience teaching the popular writing tool. The five-paragraph theme requires an introductory paragraph, three middle paragraphs that each have their own ideas, and a concluding paragraph. Nunnally believes that this writing model should only be used as a writing tool and not the backbone to all essays (Nunnally). I agree with Nunnally’s stance, but also think that by the age of sixteen, students should no longer be given the opportunity to rely on the model for writing opportunities. **

I had the opportunity to interview Mrs. Maria G. Rivera. She Is a hardworking mother who came to the united states at the age of 13 since then she hasn't left. She has no desire of going back to Mexico and considers America home. I had the chance to dig deep into her early life history, which I will talk about in the next paragraph. I learned how much she values her children and how much she cares for them, which Is the reason why she decided to make a move and come to the United States because she was thinking of her future kids and didn't want them to experience the harsh life she lived when being a young girl.

On March17 , 1985 Richard had bought a .22-caliber revolver from a guy off the street (Carlo). He also had stolen a car from a gas station then hopped on theLos Angeles freeway looking for his next vicim. Tia Maria Torres was born in June 11, 1960, she grew up in a broken home in Southern California. When she was little her parents divorced, soon after her dad remarried and she was raised by her step mother. She adopted her step mother’s love for animals, Tia began to take in stray dogs and cats however times were very difficult both financially and physically and her step mom was having a difficult time taking care of them. She recalls some funny stories of her birth, one being how her parents said she came out with very dark hair and describing her as a little mouse.
