Analysis of “Playwriting 101: The Rooftop Lesson” A short play is usually filled with a theatrical energy of diverse anthologies. The time allotted may be only ten or fifteen minutes, so it must be able to capture and engage the audience with some dramatic tension, exciting action, or witty humor. Just as in a short story, a great deal of the explanation and background is left for the reader or viewer to discover on their own. Because all the details are not explicitly stated, each viewer interprets the action in their own way and each experience is unique from someone else viewing the same play. The theme of Orloff’s play focuses on examining these expectations of good playwriting with a surprise lesson being discovered in the end. The Teacher, who is supposedly showing how the scene should play out between the Jumper and Good Samaritan, learns a valuable lesson himself on the craft of writing a good play. The lesson being that in theater, just as in real life, nothing is set in stone and anything is possible. The lesson begins with the Teacher using a remote to click through a series of scenes taking place between the Jumper and Good Samaritan, with the plot not turning out as one would expect. The first scene shown lacks conflict and does not allow for further plot; therefore the Teacher explains that this is not satisfying to the audience. The second scene also lacks conflict, by resolving too quickly, and the third scene is absurd with both characters using unnecessarily foul language that does not appeal to any kind of viewer. As the Teacher clicks through several more poorly constructed scenes the other two characters come to life and revolt which causes the Teacher to lose control. The true comedic events ensue when the Teacher battles with the other characters in order to regain control over the play. Surprisingly the Teacher is the one who becomes the victim to death, thereby creating an example of a well written play. “Playwriting 101: The Rooftop Lesson” essentially mocks the common clichés
In Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, two young lovers take their lives after their family feud reignites . A variety of decisions along with circumstance no one person could account for set the story of Romeo and Juliet up to be a tragedy. Many of the decisions in the play are made quickly and while emotions are running high, so frequently they result in bad outcomes. So, the rash and impulsive decisions made by men in Romeo and Juliet create the problems within the play.
The stories would not have the same effect if they were from anyone else’s perspective as they put the reader in place of people who are uneducated. The seven players lack of education serves as their downfall, while the reader learns with Sylvia through Miss Moore’s lesson.

Toni Cade Bambara's The Lesson is a very well written piece of history. This is a story from yesterday, when Harlem children didn't have good education or the money to spring for it. Bambara's tale tells about a little girl who doesn't really know how to take it when a good teacher finally does come along. This girl's whole life is within the poverty stricken area and she doesn't see why she must try hard. The teacher, Miss Moore, shows them what it is all about by taking them to a rich toy store, one in which a single toy costs more than year's supply of food.

To Sylvia, being educated means seeing things as they are. Sylvia and Miss Moore both have a considerable amount of pride. Sylvia thinks Miss Moore shows disrespect when she describes their neighborhood as a slum and their families as poor. Bambara has indicated that Sylvia 's family is striving for better conditions through the mention of the piano rental. Miss Moore views the children 's acceptance of their economic condition as ignorance and their ignorance as disrespect for their race. Miss Moore wants to change this attitude and encourages the children to demand more from the society that keeps them down. By the end of the story, both of these characters have made their points.
