While this class might not have been what I expected, I was able to complete the objectives of this course which included teaching fundamentals of being a college student and learning about myself through my uniqueness and my value and how I can apply that to be a successful student. According to the syllabus, “This class requires students to remain to true to themselves engaging in dialogue and debate about matters that are contemporary and important.” (Crowell 1) I was able to learn about different resources and techniques that will help me while I am a student at Auburn University and in my future career such as learning how to write a proper email, managing my time, interacting with those around me and how to think about things a step further.
This semester has flew by a lot faster than I anticipated. The akron experience has taught me quite a bit that has helped me in many different areas. Being successful in college to me means to organize and manage all the parts of your life so that you are content. College is alot to keep track of and managing this and the rest of your life is the main thing that will keep you going so you are able to take breaks. Without breaks you will get burned out and I learned this pretty fast. I would say I was successful this semester even if my grades weren't exactly where I wanted them I am getting the feel for the whole experience.
Being successful in college is not as difficult as some people think it is. With the proper preparation and observation, the student can be well-organized weeks ahead of when their classes will be scheduled to start. Not everyone is considered a highly organized individual and sometimes unexpected things happen to us all. It is important to keep a positive attitude, research, and speak with your instructors and various other staff members when needed in order to solve a dilemma. It all boils down to what the problem you are facing is. For myself, my EOPS appointment had been four days before classes were supposed to start and after taking a one-hour bus ride to the college about thirty minutes before my appointment was scheduled my phone rang.
In conclusion, so far in this class I have found many things meaningful to me. The academic success skills and tools they shared with myself and the class have actually helped me complete this essay in a timely manner. I am beyond thankful to have three great instructors to teach me more about the great Midland University and what it all has to offer. I believe that if I make the most out of this class, I am more likely to find success in the future. Module One has had a positive impact on my student life and I am beyond excited to learn more every week in the following
I know that college will be difficult for me because of time management, lack of support, and the challenging classes. I am a mother of seven children, and six grandchildren whom I have devoted my life to for many years. Now it is time for me to shine. Managing time is very hard for me because it takes up most of the day. I have to car pool my daughter to basketball games, and take my son back and forth to work. My husband also demands my attention and help, because he is older now and cannot do a lot of things on his own. He comes home from work at night and expects dinner to magically appear on the table and house work to automatically be done. Finally once everything is done, it is then eight already and I still have to get the things left that I need to do before school like finish homework, study for tests, and then have myself in bed before eleven. In order to become a successful college student I will have to overcome my challenges. I would like to finish college and major in nursing which is my number 1 goal in life.
The information that I have learned will be applied to my work life now and in the future so that I can better assist my students to become more intentional learners. Taking this class has definitely exceeded my expectations and has been enjoyable. When I first looked into this class, I wasn't really certain what to expect. I didn't understand the concept of the LCI and what I was supposed to get out of it. Honestly, I didn't really understand why this was going to be my first class in obtaining my bachelor's degree. After taking and completing this class, I now understand the importance of it. I have learned so much about myself as a college student, about my learning style, and I am now equipped with tools that I will be able to utilize throughout my academic journey. I think that if I had this class the first time I was in college, my GPA would have been higher and I would have been more of an intentional learner. Not only did this class exceed my expectations but it has also been enjoyable. I enjoyed learning about my Learning Patterns and how to become an intentional learner. I enjoyed learning ways to better my learning style and how to succeed as a college student. At times, it was also challenging when it came to self-reflection and I love challenges. I like that if I had an issue, I could email my
The three strategies I believe to be crucial for success in college would be, reading and understand your syllabus, attending your classes, and choosing a good seat. Your syllabus provides you with crucial information to succeed in that class, important dates, how to get in contact with professors and classmates. Every class is different and every professor have their method of grading, teaching and expectation, your syllabus will guide you thru that. The second key strategies would be attending all your classes. For me I easy get behind and have a hard time catching back up, so attending all my classes is a must. the more classes I miss the more homework I’ll have, I am already busy with work and family that adding extra homework would be

I was luckily enough to have a fairly easy time getting through college. Applied and accepted to one school, half price tuition, scholarships, and full pell grants, never received lower than a B, graduated early and had a job lined up before graduation. By no means was anything handed to me, but I knew I need to get out of school as quick as possible and get into the real world. I only dealt with homesickness my first semester. Looking back on my undergrad years, I did not deal with the typical struggles my students do. Throughout my two and half years in higher education, my eyes have been opened up tremendously, but this class opened my eyes to different issues. Issues that I have not faced yet. I am positive I will face several of these problems one day, either with my students or myself. I am happy to think back to previous discussions to help my students move through the hard
To get into and remain successful in college, there are many things you need to take into consideration as you finish up your last two years of high school. During your junior year of high school, you should start looking into a college and start to think about when you're going to take the ACT. If you are wanting to go to an ivy league school you should take the SAT instead of the ACT. The ACT and SAT are standardized academic tests that help a college to know if you’re ready for college. During your 4 years of high school, you should start thinking about what scholarships you want to apply for, don’t hesitate on what scholarships you apply for, because there is a scholarship for mostly everything.
Organization is the key to being successful in college. As a freshman, I struggled with mastering this skill, but throughout my years in college I would say that I have perfected it. One can assume, that if I had not mastered the skill of organization I would not currently have a 4.0 GPA. Along with my full time college schedule I have other responsibilities which sometimes make it hard for me to maintain my organization. However, through the use of successful time management I have been able to maintain all of my current responsibilities. My current level of responsibilities includes an internship, a part-time job, and a full time school schedule. I attend my social work classes at the University of Wisconsin Green- Bay every Tuesday and Thursday
Lets get one fact out of your head: "There isn't a single major that is strictly successful or unsuccessful. It is true that some majors tend to earn higher salaries that others. But studying a certain major doesn't guarantee anything. What guarantees your success is what you do outside of your major.
Doing well as a college student is essential for me to have a successful career. In the past, I have often put off assignments to the last minute, which could have a negative effect on my grades. Using my strengths to compensate for this issue is crucial to my success. In order to do this, I will need the support of others. By using my strengths and having the encouragement of others, I should have no problem succeeding as a college student.

I remember how excited I was to start college, meet people, have less classes in one day, learn more about my major, and have more time to myself. These past few weeks of this course has overall been an interesting process. I have honestly throughout this course had learned quite a bit about life itself and human interactions. The discussions really forced me to think about the world outside of the little bubble my own personal thoughts and beliefs have formed over the years which I appreciate the different views its refreshing. I had a lot of moments where I questioned human morals, how odd the world really is and its values. There hasn't been a day after leaving that class where I hadn't left with some sort of question or thoughts roaming around my mind revolving the day's discussion. What I came to appreciate about the class was that nothing was ever given to us as just ‘busy work’ everything had a meaning that would not just help us in a classroom sense but help us overall become stronger thinkers and more observant. It varied from reading articles, to books to writing papers and projects everything had its own helpful purpose that added to the course I felt as if I was actually taking the time to learn and not just memorize and get a good grade on.
