Dear Factory Owner, Because of the recent occurrences of the factory fire, I decided to write to the men in charge of the wrongdoings in the factories. As anyone could imagine, a tragedy like this causes a great deal of worry. As such, I witnessed the fire in the factory. My only concern is not just how the factory went up into flames, but the conditions these women and employees were under when the fire occurred. As I heard the factory was up in flames, I waited for employees to rush through the doors of the 10-story building. Except I came to find the doors were locked. It begged the question of why the doors were locked. After asking around the factory it was brought to my attention that the doors were always kept locked, in order to prevent the women from taking their allowed breaks, or “stealing” of any kind. Now the matter of how the fire came about is not my biggest concern. Since these doors were locked everyone was trapped inside the building. To my knowledge, there is only one fire escape in the whole building, which was blocked during the line of rescue. The fact there is only one fire escape is unethical, and a matter of safety. However, there would be no need for a fire escape to be so crowded if employers did not lock the doors to trap the women workers inside. The terrible part, since the stairs were blocked, the fire rescue team’s ladders only reached so far, which left most of the victims inside. I watched these women fall to their deaths as a last resort of burning alive. Their lifeless bodies fell onto the fire hoses of the rescue team making it even harder to put the fire out. These events were tragic, they never should have happened, and should never happen again. As a country, we take pride in the work and freedoms we are committed to. As John Locke believed, all persons are born with natural rights to life, liberty, and property and that rulers who fail to protect those rights may be removed by the people, by force if necessary; along with the pursuit of happiness. Now as a human being do you think women falling to their deaths obey the women's natural rights or their pursuit of happiness? Absolutely not, this factory is a disgrace to everything we the people of America have worked so hard to build after what our ancestors went through getting our land, and government away from the British. I may not be one of your employees or a victim of this fire, but the events that occurred should be punishable. You may not be punished in the eyes of the law, but if you think this is the way to run a factory out of violence you may be condemned to a lifetime's worth of guilt and pain. As you should feel guilty, you should have an urge to change. Sincerely, Triangle Fire Witness
