- Pd(II) and Au(II) can be determined simultaneously by the reaction with methiomeprazine (C 19 H 24 N 2 S 2 ). The maximum absorption for Pd occurs at 480 nm, while for the Au complex it is at 635 nm. A sample of 25 mL was treated with excess of the complexant and then diluted to 50.0 mL. Calculate the molar concentrations of Pd(II) and Au(II) in the sample. The data are found in the table below and the bucket used was 1.0 cm.The molecules Cr(CO)6 and MnCl(CO)5 are both octahedral in their molecular geometry. Are these two molecules discernable by their CO stretches using IR spectroscopy. Using group theory approach and the CO bond vectors as the basis, show that these molecules are (or are not) discernable by IR spectroscopy.Describe how to create metal atomic chains and to measure the G quantization.
- Q5. The following isomers were obtained for a cobalt complex. How you would distinguish them with the help of vibrational spectroscopy? Calculate IR and Raman active bands for both the isomers in region 1700-2000 cm? OC m co oc Isomer I Isomer IIThe concept of bond-stretch isomerization was a debated topic in the inorganic literature throughout the 1970's and 1980's. The best example of this concept is that of mer- MoOCl2(PMe2Ph)3. Single crystal XRD showed two unique bond distances for the M=O double bond and IR data showed two unique stretching frequencies, suggesting that two isomers of the complex existed with two unique M=O bond distances. However, this idea didn't sit well with many inorganic chemists as it seemed to defy our understanding of chemical bonding. In the 1990's, the concept of bond-stretch isomers was finally debunked with the help of higher resolution instrumentation. Read Gerard Parkin's Acc. Chem. Res. article on the topic and explain how XRD, IR, and 'H-NMR experiments were used in combination to unravel the mystery.(b) The formula that relates the spin only magnetic moment (en) to the number of unpaired d-electrons (x) is: Heft = √√x(x+2) (1) For each of the following complexes, use this formula to calculate the number of unpaired electrons: Nan[Rh(CO)4], Hell0 BM Rb₂lMoBrn), Heft=2.83 BM (ii) Using the answers from part (b)(i): • Draw crystal field d-orbital energy level diagrams for each complex. • State the oxidation state of the metal in each complex. • Determine the value of n for each complex.
