Expert Solution
Step 1Introduction
Plasma membrane is a selectively permeable structure which forms a barrier between cytoplasm and external environment. It blocks the free passage of molecules from inside to outside the cell and vice versa. Hydrophobic and small polar uncharged molecular can diffuse through lipid bilayer whereas large polar and charged molecules are impermeable and need transporters or channels for entry and exit from the cell.
