Why Tobacco Should Be Illegal In The United States Economy

One of the largest and most problematic health issues in our society is smoking. Smoking is currently the leading cause of death in our country, due to its harmful and addicting contents, such as nicotine and tobacco. Although millions die from it each year, smoking is the single most preventable cause of death as well. Without smoking, a tremendous amount of money and lives will be saved. I think that our country should ban smoking and the production of cigarettes in order to maintain a healthier nation, help save the environment, and prevent the almost 1000 deaths that they cause in fires each year.

Cigarettes kill more Americans than suicide, vehicular accidents, alcohol, cocaine, heroin, ADIS, and homicides combined. Cigarettes do not support or benefit the public in a positive way. Cigarettes are filled with thousands of chemicals and are highly addictive. Cigarettes have caused numerous mental and physical problems for smokers and the people who surround them, impacting families, communities and society. Cigarettes and tobacco should become an illegal drug in North America. The negative traits of smoking outweigh the positive traits; tobacco should not be accessible to the public.

“Loathsome to the eye, hateful to the nose, harmful to the brain, and dangerous to the lungs.” says King James of England and Scotland, describing smoking in 1604 (Connolly 13). Tobacco use kills millions of people a year but still only has few legal restrictions. Many argue that the use of tobacco is a right we have in the United States but the harm that it does to the innocent may outweigh those rights. Because the use of tobacco negatively impacts the health of both the users and those around them, all tobacco products and their use should be illegal.

Tobacco and the U.S share a rich history; it dated back to the 17th century when the first commercial crop was planted. Many people claim tobacco had an influence in the colonization of North America and without it; the colonies would not have survived. While our history with tobacco is long and rich, it doesn’t erase the fact that it kills more people annually than cocaine, heroin, meth and all other illegal drugs combined. In the argument of whether or not tobacco should be banned, many people are evenly split. Tobacco could become a black market if banned, and it is widely practiced in Native American ceremonies, while the high mortality rates, and the financial burden have others petitioning for it to be banned.

Smoking is the inhalation and exhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco. Historically, it was thought that smoking was harmless, but more modern, clinical and laboratory research proves that it is, in fact, extremely dangerous. Tobacco cigarettes should be illegal in the United States due to their plethora of negative effects on the population and the environment. If cigarettes were banned, the country would be a much better place. Pollution, diseases and fatalities would dramatically decrease, while productivity, financial stability and overall health would increase.

Cigarettes should be illegal because it harms you by raising the risk of lung cancer. It causes lung cancer by affecting the lungs. If you're new to smoking and you stop your body may be able to fix this damage. If you keep doing it repeatedly you can end up with cancer. Smoking harms pregnant females by doubling

It is crucial that tobacco usage in the United States ends because tobacco not only negatively affects the user, but also the people indirectly exposed, and as a result, the economy. Tobacco appears to be very profitable as a consumable product to the nation because of its wide usage, but the costs needed to cover medical charges overshadow the profit. Tobacco usage also demands a high price of human lives. Both the farming and waste of tobacco products damage the environment. The ceasing of American tobacco use will positively affect the country by creating a safer environment, reducing tobacco related deaths and illnesses, and providing cleaner communities.

Every year the US government passes numerous laws to protect its citizens. Yet, they still fail to protect its citizens from the leading cause of death in America. Although they work to protect the citizens they continue to ignore the most preventable death in America. The culprit responsible for these deaths is the cigarette. The impact that cigarettes make on a human is awful and there should be no reason why it is legal. Cigarettes should be banned because it is one of the harm fullest drugs around that is still legal. Cigarettes not only affect ones health but it affects the environment, economy and others around them.

If somebody is smoking they can get many different types of diseases and cancers. It is proven that somebody who smokes is 15 to 30 percent more likely to get lung cancer. That is a crazy amount more than a person not smoking. Tobacco itself also has around 7,000 chemicals. That many chemicals are not very good for your body. Around 70 are known to cause cancer in humans and animals (CDC). Ammonia(used to treat waste water), Arsenic(rat poison), Acetone(nail polish remover), Cadmium(batteries), Nickel (Smoker News World) are only a few of the dangerous chemicals in tobacco. If that does not scare you away from smoking I don't know what will. All of those chemicals listed are extremely poisonous. In our culture it is unethical to have somebody kill themselves. But this is still happening right under our noses, literally. Thousands of people die because of smoking. So why don't why just ban smoking and stop these people from killing

Cigarettes are the number one cause of death in the U.S. and yet they are still on the shelves. People know the damage tobacco does to the body, and yet they still continue to smoke, chew, and sniff it. Cigarettes and tobacco products needs to be criminalized. Tobacco is a very negative substance. It has caused many deaths in the past 100 years in the United States. The CDC says that they’re 480,000 deaths in the United States each year (Health Effects of Cigarette Smoking). There are many forms of tobacco such as cigarettes, menthols, e-cigarettes, hookahs and shishas, dissolvables, bidis, and cigars. The government should ban tobacco products in the United States because it has negative effects to an individual's health, they’re also very expensive, and cause harmful pollution to the Earth and its inhabitants.

“Scientific evidence has established that smoking is a cause of cancers of the lung, larynx (voice box), pharynx (throat), oral cavities, oesophagus, bladder, kidneys, pancreas, stomach, cervix and the blood.” ("Cigarettes and Cancer."). The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, has estimated that, “443,000 smoking-related deaths occur annually in the U.S.” (Kennedy, Madeline). The amount of deaths that have occurred so frequently due to an addiction that the government has enforced should be enough evidence to prove that it should be banned.

Why should cigarettes be illegal? That is a great question. Tobacco smoke is a mix of over 7,000 chemicals. Cigarettes take away to many lives, can harm the people around you, and cost many Americans their money, time, and health . Honestly, I have a very strong opinion on this topic, because I've seen most of these effects first hand with my family. Let me explain myself...

The use of tobacco been proven to causes and contributes to health problems. Making this drug will illegal will make it less convenient for individual of all ethnicities to purchase. I would also recommend that African American public health officials go out into the African American communities and explain the dangers of smoking to individuals face to face.
