Why I Want To Become A Prosthetist

There are many reasons why I want to become a phlebotomist. First of all, I have enjoyed my past experiences of working in the medical field as a CNA and USAF medical technician. As a CNA I mostly worked with the elderly. As a medical technician I worked all over the military hospitals to include the ER, Lab, and OB/GYN. I put my career on hold to raise my family. Now my children are of age and I decided it was time to get myself back to what I love, which is helping and caring for others.

I came to America from Vietnam when I was just three years old. I spent a majority of my life with my grandma, who has always taught me the importance of helping others. She always told me to have; you must give, and if you have nothing to give, you can always give your time. This phase has been a huge guide in my life, and it has truly shaped me into who I am. At a young age, I always felt that my purpose in life was to help people. After attending many doctor visits with my grandma for her health check-ups, I was confident my future occupation would be in the medical field. During these frequent doctor visits, I had the chance to watch the interactions and cooperation among different healthcare professionals in different settings. Being in this inspiring environment, I hoped one day I could mirror them and make a difference in people’s lives and the community. Although I have always wanted to help those in need, I was uncertain of what specific career role would allow me to fulfill my passion for helping others.

Throughout my four years of college, I wanted to learn about myself and the world. I did not want to follow a particular path or be strict with myself. Now, as a graduate I discovered my passion for health and helping people. I want to volunteer at New York Methodist Hospital because I want to learn more about health while getting to help people feel at peace during a difficult time in their life. I am ready to learn and I am ready for a new experience. I want to learn from accomplished individuals and further my knowledge in health for when I decide to go to nursing school. At the age of 5, I had to help my grandma because she could not walk due to arthritis of the spine and knee. At a young age I learned how one person can make a difference

I have been able to see the joy on a child’s face when they finally make a shot, the joy on their face when they learn how and when to cross the street, and the joy on their face when they realize that they have the potential to be anything they want to be in life. Being able to watch this all happen has allowed me to realize that I want to see these kinds of amazing reactions every day for the rest of my life. On top of this, I want to be the one to allow them to have this reaction. To me, it is the best feeling in the world when I know that I have helped someone do something they felt they couldn’t do before. This being said, my volunteer work has persuaded me into the direction of the medical field. I feel this has happened because the medical field gives me an enormous variety of ways to impact lives

Growing up with my grandparents had helped me determine my decision of pursuing a career in the medical field. My grandparents were Chinese farmers who would always reaching out for our neighbors and providing them with life needs. By growing up with them, I obtain their personalities as well. They taught me to be humble, responsible and caring. I remember a quote by Stephen Richard, “When you reach out to those in need, do not be surprised if the essential meaning of something occurs.” This quote was later proven by my own experience, which I would get this indescribable gratification I get after helping someone. I have always had a passion for helping individuals no matter what their situations were. Growing up, I was in the hospital at least once a year or even more due to an injury that I had acquired due to my daredevil stunts. As a child, I remember jumping off the top of my bunk bed into a jar of vaseline and splitting my eye. My stunts were very dangerous and kept me with a spot on a hospital bed at Christ Advocate Hospital. By constantly being at the hospital, it became a home to me. I would become fascinated as I waited in the waiting room seeing all of the different injuries. This fascination only led me to learn to explore further. I would spend my late nights ,when I was suppose to be sleep, staying up until 12 am watching different surgeries on YouTube. The more gruesome the surgery, the more I wanted to experience it.

I know I can be a great assistant, but that is not what I want for myself, I want to be a Speech Pathologist working in a hospital and helping people with traumatic brain injuries. This is a long-term goal that I’m willing to spend years reaching, because if given the opportunity to work with this population, I will get to blend not only my general knowledge, but also my love of science and desire to help others. I have had no experience with disabled people, and being in this undergrad program is my first- hand look at seeing what it’s like for those with disabilities to struggle daily and have frustrations I can’t even begin to imagine. My plans are to give back to my community by working as an occupational therapist at our local hospital, the Fairfax Community Hospital. My strengths are definitely housed in my communication skills, and I love being an aid to others. This career will fulfill my desire to encouragingly help individuals gain independence. One day when there was no school I spent my day job shadowing the occupational therapist at the Community Hospital in Fairfax. My interest of becoming an occupational therapist came from my mom. My mother is a nurse at the Family Medical Center in Rock Port, Missouri. My interest has never been medical, but my mother suggested this career for me because of my personality. I have always known that the opportunity to help people will be the most important quality in my future occupation. Being a social and helpful person, I never miss an opportunity to help someone in need because I enjoy seeing a smile on someone’s face who was worried only a few minutes prior and to know that you had a role in helping this person is the most satisfying pleasure in the world to me. As I was choosing a field, I was certain in one thing, I wanted an occupation that would give me a chance to use my intellectual potential and enthusiasm to help others.

My first goal is to help younger students by being a role model and providing college ready guidance. Two years ago, my life shattered when my mother and premature sister were hospitalized and almost died. Throughout a period of 4 weeks, I suffered as I saw my mom in a coma and my baby sister in an incubator. I cried and prayed while touching my little sister’s 2 pound body and soon realized how fragile we were. It was New Year’s Eve when both she and my sister came home from the hospital. We had so much support from friends, family, and teachers that I sometimes wonder what I would have done without them. Everyone always smiled at me which brought me comfort. Therefore, I learned that I have to be strong and smile to tackle each obstacle to the best of my ability. Smiling gives people relief and hope for a great end result. Ever since I was a young girl I loved to help others. I always loved seeing the person’s eyes light up and give me that beautiful smile as they say the words “thank you.” It’s with these wonderful things that give me the insurance that I want to be a doctor. This way I get to help people who have been in indescribable pain; both physically and emotionally, and threw that career I can experience that same kindling joy that I do now. My Mom always told me that I had healing hands.

Since I was little I have always wanted to help people. This desire started when I used to visit my dad at the hospital. He was diagnosed with brain cancer, and it was hard to understand at my age, but I knew it was terrible. Although it was on awful terms, I had this fascination with hospitals. First of all tattoo artist needs a diploma, or proof or g.e.d but of course I am going to have more schooling than that. I am planning on going to take art classes to learn more. So I know what to do. I really think I will learn more than the people that have just a high school diploma because I went to school more. Secondly I really don’t care how much it pay’s, tattoo artist only pay’s about, 30,415 per year it may not be a lot but I really don’t care I’m doing this for fun. But I will take this seriously. In some states you would need a license. It would be smart to be on the safe side and have a license any way. Thirdly the reason I want to be a tattoo artist is I think it would be fun to do.

He he he! The children giggle while they are enjoying a school activity. A great activity offered by my school is carpentry because it is very fun and educational and can help me get a good job. First, carpentry can be a very fun and educational class to participate in. Second, while attending carpentry I will learn to identify and use a large variety of hand tools. Last, because of my attendance and participation in carpentry; I will be eligible for starting a career in carpentry, so that I can grow up to apply for a job as a carpenter in the future.
