Why I Choose Florida State University

Education is never ending therefore there are many things to learn. Each and every day has something new to offer. This is a constant. I am an avid learner consequently I hunger for something new every day to quench that taste for knowledge.

Before entering UCF you have to learn about what you want to do in the future and learn about the job opportunities they offer including the clubs activities and sports.

I am applying to Hofstra because I believe that the university can help me achieve my goals. From the time I was a young child, I knew I wanted to go into the medical field. While there is a long and difficult road ahead of me, I am sure that attending Hofstra University will help me go down that road.

Between my freshman and sophomore year of college I completed a 450 hour internship at All Children’s Hospital. This internship although it was mainly administrative showed me a side of hospitals that most people don’t see. I was able to see the behind-the-scenes of fundraising and public relations. I had first hand exposure to the world of fundraising for an organization that relies on fundraising. Two years later completed my bachelors of science in general business management.

My curiosity is insatiable. My mom claims that once I was a few months old, I was never satisfied unless I was completely engaged in learning. Not much has changed in the past 18 years as I have spent my life in the pursuit of knowledge. For me, learning has always been about achieving a greater understanding of the world (from the life of Elizabeth II to the neurobiology of junk food addiction) and using that understanding to try to find my place. I believe that UChicago’s philosophy about learning—which prioritizes learning how to think, challenging assumptions, and enriching the world with knowledge—aligns perfectly with my own.

Learning has always been my passion. When I was younger, I would spend hours pouring over dictionary pages, trying to decrypt the hidden messages of jumbled up symbols. I would take a book and invent stories to go along with the pictures. Nothing ever stopped me from trying to understand things. When I turned 4, my dad finally taught me to read. We would sit on the couch, me sounding out each word and my dad correcting me after each mispronunciation. The experience was enthralling. Ever since that moment, I have been passionate about learning. When given the opportunity to learn, I seize it. In this way, I identify most with the Scholarship aspect of the Nation Honors Society. Education has never been the means to gain a degree, but rather the means to expand my knowledge.

     I love learning and bettering myself. Also,  I believe it is very important to show this to our children instead of just preaching it. Continuing our education info our adult life is one of the best things you can do for your mind and spirit, in my opinion. It keeps our brain strong and able to retain new information as well as bettering the financial future and stability for our families.

During my undergraduate career, I have learn a lot more than what was taught in the classroom. It was an experience that you cannot describe in words; something you can only experience. Luckily, I had environment that encouraged me to explore beyond what a textbook has to over via instructor, counselor or peer. When your challenges are arranged as a journey of learning, surrounded by a supportive environment, the wonders you can learn about the world are endless.

The reason I chosen Tarleton State University is because Tarleton is about helping and supporting everyone. Being a supportive to an individual’s dreams and goals is what set Tarleton apart from any college in my mind. All the staff here want to see every student pass with flying colors. At Tarleton “love” is truly shown, if an individual attends Tarleton the individual will fall in love with the support and history. Tarleton also showed me even if everyone supports an individual it must be the individual’s job to support their self.

I grew up with Illinois State in my blood, because my uncle is a graduate from there, and he loves taking me there to visit and teach me more about the wonderful college. My uncle has grown to become a very respectable and successful man from studying at Illinois State. This connection makes me want to strive to be just like him. While studying at Illinois State, I would like to receive my master’s degree to give me a better chance of a high paying job. Illinois State is an excellent school to pursue my major and that they have the best chance of making me a successful human being in this world after college.

Since I can remember, math has always been easy and exciting to me. In high school, the only classes I looked forward to involved math – other than sports. Upon entering college at Eastern Oklahoma State College on an academic and cheerleading scholarship, I chose mathematics as my major. When I came to Oklahoma State University in 2011, I was extremely unsure of what I wanted to study. I started out in architectural engineering because I knew that I loved math and numbers, as well as drawing and designing things. After a semester or so, I realized that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would and didn’t think I could build a career with it. I pursued another direction and changed my major to applied mathematics. I still wasn’t happy with my decision but was unsure on what to do next. Courses in school move at an extremely fast pace. This can be both a positive and negative. It is a positive thing because once I have a good grasp on what I am being taught and can accurately comprehend the different concepts I am later tested on them and we move on to the next topic. On the other hand this can be a negative thing because we are not provided with an extremely in depth lesson on what we are learning. With such limited time to teach every topic for a particular subject to a class teachers may not have the opportunity give real world examples about how a particular topic may be used or seen or just dissecting a topic and fully exampling every aspect about it. This lack of depth then leads to having to research a topic independently to gain more information on it. Don’t get me wrong, I have no issue using my free time to learn more about a certain topic independently. Independent learning is something that I feel is extremely important. When I take the initiative to research things on my own and stem off of something taught in class and apply it to my life or real world situations I feel a sense of accomplishment.I feel that taking responsibility for one’s own learn is fundamental because if I don’t have the motivation to care about gaining knowledge and learning things for myself; who will care? I would like to share my background story and growing up in a small town. No one in my family has attended college. I will be the first to graduate high school and community college at the same time. I have come to love school. At a very young age I understood the kind of power, knowledge holds.
