Why Do School Uniforms Conformity

Draa (2006) stated that "uniforms can be beneficial by blurring class lines within a student body (para. 13). Uniforms can also benefit these students ' self-esteem as they won 't have to feel self-conscience about wearing old or worn out clothes. Not only would uniforms reduce students standing out because of their parent 's financial status, they have also been proven to be cheaper over time. Uniforms are more cost-effective because parents would only have to buy several days ' worth of the same items of clothing, rather than buying lots of clothes for different outfits every day. School uniforms also reduce competition among students to dress better than the other students and instead allows them to focus more on their studies.

Have you ever had to wear a school uniform? School uniforms are plain and they have no personality. Who would want to wear something so plane? School uniforms should not be allowed in schools because they have no individuality, school uniforms can increase bullying, and finally they are so expensive.

Uniforms maintain equality within the school. Students should not have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes. When everyone is dressed the same, concerning about how you look isn't so important. A study in the U.S Department of Education shows that by wearing a school uniform student's sense of security raised 41% and over ¾ of teachers agreed that uniforms were the reason for that happened. Students feel much more secure in school since they cannot be victims of bullies for being dressed in a certain way. For example, it would be much more difficult for a bully to make fun of how students are dressed especially if they are dressed exactly the same. According to the Department of Education in the U.S students sense of belonging also increased, this is because when students are dressed like their peers it makes them feel more equitable, valuable and included. Academically this is important for students because if students are feeling unhappy and excluded they will not be interested in their studies or even coming to school. Some people might argue that uniforms do not spread equality because it takes away the right of expressing their individuality. While that may be true individuality is what distinguishes us from others, but clothing isn’t the only way to do that. You can express yourself through what you do for example sports, music, art, etc. This is beneficial to students because they won’t judge others by their looks but by their personality. As for equality, it means equal, which is a key reason to have uniforms because it allows all students to look and feel equal. A uniform saves parents from having to keep buying their kid the latest trend and name brand clothing. Buying five different uniform styles is a lot cheaper than having to buy 30-40 different clothing styles and colors. Most uniforms can be easily altered or added to for the changing of the seasons, which saves time and money from not having to shop the seasons.

When everyone wears the same type of clothing, they feel like a part of a comunity. for example: it seems like everyone is on the same page when they look the same. when a group of people look the same and/or have the same value, they feel a certen conection and co exist better. for example little itally or chinatown.

Yes, I cannot deny that uniforms are very plain and boring but there is an upside to that. Since you do have to wear a uniform you get the chance to get your creative juices flowing. You have to find ways to show your personality through your appearance in other ways such as shoes, accessories, jackets or cardigans, etc. Students get to determine how people see them in other ways which lets them add their own unique twist to their look. In my opinion, that forces you to find yourself and all your likes and dislikes when it comes to you as a person. That may be something minor but the older you get it becomes something you value.

Picture being able to get up every day and throw on the same exact thing you had one the before previous day, and go to school. You wouldn’t be the only one doing it, because your friends would be doing it as well! Sounds a little unbelievable right? Well, it’s starting to be more common in today’s society as school uniforms have gone past private schools to public schools. Uniforms create an encouraging effect on kids’ self-respect, appearance, control, and test scores. It has also been proven to lessen the crime rate and brutality in public schools.

Regardless of whether the school is private or public, the use of school uniforms should be executed as a way to promote an environment that helps students get the most out of their school education.

There are many students that go to school with low self esteems and thinking that they are not as good as others just because of their clothing. This problem could be reduced for many kids with school uniforms. Example a school in southern California made it mandatory for all student “k-8” to where a school uniform. From 1933 to 1995 the conduct had major improvement after going to school uniforms (Riley). That is a fact showing that school uniforms have an impact of student life. Another highly talked about topic is bullying, bullying can come from many things but one of the reasons student pick on other students is because of their clothing. With school uniforms every student will not have to worry about having the name brand clothing which means that puts all students on a level field. So if all kids are dressed the same that would decrease a big problem known as bullying and would also increase students self esteem.

Look into a classroom. What do you see? A kid in pajama pants. A girl in shorts that are shorter than short. Another boy is being taunted because he wore a sweatshirt with a not popular sports team’s logo. In a corner, a group of girls are talking about who has more expensive clothes, instead of studying. In fact, most students are not dressed very appropriately. In my opinion, this is not the way a classroom should be. A school is a place where students go to learn, not strut around in their newest designer clothes or wear clothes that are only suitable for a beach. Others don’t even bother to change out of their pajamas before coming to school. This is why we should have uniforms. Uniforms would make school the organized, happy place it should be. Some folks say that uniforms hinder a student’s self expression, and it’s really not fair to make kids dress up in ties and skirts everyday of the year. But guess what. It actually is more than just fair to make students wear uniforms. Bullying, crime, and gangs go down or cease to exist when uniforms are implemented. Test scores and grades improve. By making students wear uniforms, we may hear a few grumbles, but in the long run, it’s better off for everyone.

Dressing for success has always been an accepted concept. When you look the part, you feel better about yourself. When you feel good about yourself, you perform better. School uniforms are a perfect example of this illustration. When students wear uniforms, it makes school a better experience. This is because learning is made easier, safer and more fun. Many public schools have adopted uniforms for their dress code policy. Most private schools already require them. While there are many obvious benefits to schools enforcing the use of uniforms, some people may fear that making them mandatory will limit student’s self-expression and individuality. I would argue that while at school, the focus should always be first put on the task at hand, which is learning. Although not everyone agrees with policies that require school uniforms, the positive results far outweigh any negative outcomes. School uniform policies should be enforced throughout public schools because they improve academic achievement, increase safety measures and promote a sense of togetherness amongst students.

Uniforms takes our right to express ourselves. Students should be allowed to wear outfits that let them express their personality. I for one believe that nobody would like to wear outfits to school that boring and dull. Also because if students wear uniform some of the students will think that they do not look good and that will cause them to keep on thinking about what will others think of them and it will maybe cause them to have very low self esteem and cause them to start becoming isolated and become an introverted person.

Another advantage of school uniforms is that students are viewed differently by teachers and fellow students. Teachers view students as more academically proficient in uniforms than in regular clothes because, they won't be distracted by their choice of clothing they will also appear more professional and better behaved. Students will view their peers differently for the same reasons teachers will.

Also, the parents benefit from school uniforms because they would not have to buy as much clothes for their children to change every day. The parents have to buy the uniforms only. This causes parents to save more money. Moving on, uniforms provide a learning atmosphere in schools. They remind the students that school is a place for learning, not to show off their clothes. Next, when schools have uniforms, the school would not worry about students not following the dress code. The school knows what the students are wearing. Therefore, it would not have to create a dress code. To add on to that, uniforms reduce distractions because students would not focus on what others are wearing, so they will focus more on their studies.
