Why Are Outsiders Misunderstood?

There is a bountiful number of outsiders in our society and we are wondering, why are they outsiders and what have they done to become that, what defines them? Outsiders in our society are simply misunderstood and people do not understand them, hence them being outsiders. The reasons that seem to make outsiders misunderstood is that they do not like or do the popular stuff at the time. Also, those who are outsiders are seen as people that are “different,” but really are misunderstood. Outsiders are just misunderstood in society and not purposely being pushed out. A truly popular reason behind an outsider being who they are is not supporting or doing what is popular or trendy at the time. Very often in society, trends occur and they become excessively popular, or it is just things people have been doing for an elongated amount of time. So called outsiders usually do not join in on these popular occurrences and then society assigns them an outsider, but they do not always deserve that tag. They are normal people like the rest, but are just simply misunderstood, just like Gregor is misunderstood. Gregor is the main character in “The Metamorphosis,” by Franz Kafka. Gregor’s family misunderstands him, when he transforms into a bug one day, when he tries communicating with his family cannot understand him, so he cannot tell them it is him or what happened. From this, his family forces him become an outsider and they eventually stop caring for him as his sister ends up locking him in a room with no escape, “Gregor had not heard anything of her approach. She cried out, “Finally!” to her parents, as she turned the key in the lock” (Kafka 112). Gregor ends up dying, “Then without willing it, his head sank all the way down, and from his nostrils flowed weakly his last breath” (Kafka
