Many have said that romance brings love and affection, but when taken to the extreme, it can lead to tragedy and despair. In the literary play Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare created a tragedy protagonist, Juliet, whose tragic death “buries their parents’ strife” (Prologue). The eternal feud between Montague and Capulets restraints the love between Romeo and Juliet and ultimately lead to their death. Juliet’s death has many different factors, and it’s hard to determine the truly blame of Juliet’s death. In all the important characters, Lord Capulet refuses to listen to Juliet’s request, which result in Juliet’s death. In the other hand, Romeo’s immature, impulsive and Friar Lawrence’s cowardice are all generate Juliet’s tragedy.

In ¨The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet¨,there seems to be the question of who seems most responsible for the deaths in Romeo and Juliet? I’ve come to the idea that it is the prince, Escalus who caused or atleast could’ve stopped these deaths from ever starting to unfold. He was so anonymous of every problem happening and never took charge of the situation until it concluded. He had to ask of benvolio”who began this bloody fray” when Mercutio and Tybalt were dead. He never had men prepared of any casualties that could happen or any men on patrol so no fight broke out in the first place.

Romeo and Juliet are led to suicide by a large number of people. They are a pair of teenagers that are apart of two powerful households that are at conflict with each other. At the beginning of the play Romeo is in love with a fellow noble named Rosaline. Eventually, Rosaline does not love Romeo back and he begins to look for love again at the behest of Mercutio. There he finds Juliet at the party that is being held by Lord Capulet. Over the next four days their "love" escalates and it leads to the death of the couple, along with four others. Everybody in the play contributes to Romeo and Juliet's deaths, but it is mainly because of, in my opinion, Balthasar, Mercutio, and Friar Lawrence.

The Friar had good intentions in the beginning of Romeo and Juliet’s relationship, but his promotion of their secret relationship contributed to the events that all ushered the lovers to their death. He had originally wanted to make Romeo happy and attempt to put an end to the feud. This is true because Friar Lawrence clearly states his intentions in this quote, “For this alliance may so happy prove to turn your household’s rancor to pure love.” (Act 2 Scene 3 Lines 91-92) This shows that his intentions were good in the beginning before everything went downhill, but not everything worked out the way he had planned. He wanted to do everything he possibly could in order to make it that Romeo and Juliet could be together and not have to have any worries. However, the help that he offered both the lovers ended up backfiring in his face with so many problems arising for the plan to be properly executed. His letter never made its way too Romeo which caused the whole plan to fail as a result. Although, the he can be blamed for helping push the lovers in the direction of their doom, but he can’t be completely blamed for the mistake with the letter. There's a lot of action, romance, death and compliment’s to Shakespeare for not only a creative imagination, but putting good quality literature at a whole new standard. A lot went on in “Rome and Juliet” that contributed to Romeo and Juliet’s suicidal actions, but who is truly to blame? After pondering for quite some time a reasonable conclusion was made. The three characters who are most at fault for the protagonists’ deaths are Mercutio, Friar Laurence, and Juliet’s Father.

This is evidenced by when he tells Romeo to wait in Mantua “...till we can find a time To blaze your marriage,”(Act 3, Scene 3, Line 156-157) Additionally, Friar is one of the most responsible characters in the death of Romeo and Juliet because he is the one who gave Juliet the potion to fake her death to get out of marriage with Paris, telling her, “Take thou this vial, being then in bed, And this distilled liquor drink thou off;”(Act 4, Scene 1, Line 94-95) This potion led everyone, including Romeo, to believe Juliet was dead. Romeo decided to end his life next to Juliet, and when Juliet woke up, she decided to do the same next to Romeo’s body. Friar Laurence is a meddling, foolish, and pusillanimous person who is irresponsible with the lives of two impressionable and lovestruck children.
