Recently, I saw the movie Gods of Egypt. In this movie, it shows how Horus, the God of air, gets overthrown on his coronation day by his uncle, Seth. Seth takes Horus’ eyes and becomes the new ruler of Egypt. Seth is an unfair selfish ruler and mayhem has fallen on Egypt. A young mortal named Beck and his beloved named Zia believe that they can somehow bring Horus back and make him king of Egypt as he was supposed to be. Beck finds Horus and after some bargaining, they embark on a dangerous quest to defeat Seth and take back Egypt. Although this movie may sound exciting, it has some flaws. Some events that take place in the movie go against what history says. Therefore, Gods of Egypt is mostly inaccurate and you should not go to see it.
The Ancient Egyptian society’s beliefs based their religion on polytheism which is defined as multiple ‘gods’ which were in charge of an area of life. There were up to 2,000 ‘gods and goddesses’ which controlled every aspect of the Egyptians lives. As a result the beliefs and religion belonging to the society affected the Egyptians to an ample extent. This can be observed through the values of : everyday life - , the judicial system - which was founded on religion and monitored by the religious leaders, the afterlife - to be believed that your body needed to be prepared for the afterlife and your honourable works on earth was judged by Osiris and the approach to the status of animals - for example cats were believed to be an earthly form of
A dynamic religion is the one which can be interpreted according to the needs of the times without losing the central ideas. Religion answers all the enduring questions of human existence including origin, purpose and destiny. Ancient Egyptians followed a dynamic religion that guided every aspect of Egyptian life. Egyptologists estimate that religion began around 3000BC, around the time Egyptian civilisation began and ended between 300 and 400AD when the last hieroglyphics were used. There is a great deal of evidence and artefacts to support the existence of Ancient Egyptian religion and importance and impact it had on Egyptian Society. The remains of Ancient Egypt such as the temples, hieroglyphics (ancient Egyptian writings using symbols),
In ancient Egyptian society, religion and politics in were inseparable. Religion affected everything in ancient Egypt. Every community had a guardian deity or “Lord of the city” who illustrate the powers of nature. Art, literature, and philosophy were all influenced by religion. In Egypt, gods and goddesses represented different aspects of life, “natural forces and phenomena”, and the Egyptians would appease them through their offerings and rituals held at temples and elsewhere, so that they would continue to function in accordance with divine order. “Gods were assumed to be present throughout the world, capable of influencing natural events and the course of human lives. People interacted with them in temples and unofficial shrines, for personal reasons as well as for larger goals of state rites. Egyptians prayed for divine help, used rituals to compel deities to act, and called upon them for advice. Humans' relations with their gods

Today’s society doesn’t take care of or prolong its resources. The people of America waste their resources without taking notice of how valuable they are. Egypt used its resources in order to help its civilization grow. Egypt’s major resource was the Nile River. “The Nile, the longest river in the world, literally defines the country of Egypt…95 percent of the population has lived in the Nile valley and delta.”[i] Where the water was near, the soil was fertile, which meant that the crops were flourishing, and the people could survive with an abundance of food.
There were many Gods that the Egyptians believed in and worship such as Osiris, Isis, Horus, Nu, Re, Seth and Anubis. Some Egyptians used God for their occupation while others used God to stand for them. They used many different Gods for many different things. Osiris was the God of underworld. Isis was the Goddess of motherhood. Horus was the son of Osiris and Isis and was known as the God of the sky. Every God the Egyptians worshipped represented different
When you hear the word god you might start thinking about gods like Zeus. But did you know there are also egyption gods. One of my favorite gods is Anubis. Here are some great facts so you can learn more about him. Anubis is the Egyptian god of mummification and the afterlife as well as the patron god of lost souls and the helpless. He is one of the oldest gods of Egypt, who most likely developed from the earlier jackal god Wepwawet which he is often confused with. Anubis' image is seen on royal tombs from the First Dynasty of Egypt, but it is certain he had already developed a cult following prior to this period in order to be invoked on the tomb's walls for protection. He is thought to have developed in response to wild dogs and jackals
In Ancient Egypt, religion is a very complex. They were polytheistic (belief in many gods). In Ancient Egypt they believed in more than 2,000 gods. They had a god for almost everything. I can't tell you about all of them but I can talk about the most famous ones. First there is the god of the sun which was Ra he was usually depicted as a man with a hawk head and he was also known as the supreme ruler of the gods. Then there is Isis the mother goddess and she was thought to help and protect people in need. There is also Osiris the ruler of the underworld and the god of the dead and is also the father of Horus which we'll talk about next. Horus was the god of the sky and is the son of Isis and Osiris. Egyptians also thought that Pharaoh was the
Explanation of why and how the Ancient Egyptian gods interacted with the natural and cultural environment
Religion was a big part of having a complex society. Egyptians believed in gods, goddesses, and the afterlife which was a big part of religion. People in Egypt believed the Pharaoh was the god, so they built shrines, temples, and statues devoted to their holy leader. Egyptians are willing to give up their time to give their Pharaoh respect. It isn’t just one person it is everyone whether they are worshipping, or building something revolutionary. They all have one religion they support. According to the History Reference Center, “They built temples, shrines, and statues dedicated to their holy ruler.” That means that they made things, to show their love for gods and they love their religion, so they worship together. The egyptians thought that
A part of ancient Egyptian life was the Nile inundation, as rain fell during the spring in the Ethiopian highlands, the level of the Nile River in Egypt rose, flooding the Nile Valley from for the entirety of the summer season. This process transformed much of the valley into lakes, but as the waters receded, they left behind fertile land from which new life would emerge. It is almost certain that this annual experience that the Egyptians linked to their concept of creation. One of their earliest creation myths predicted that the first place in the world was a mound of earth rose from the waters of a universal ocean. Here the first life form was seen as a lily, growing on the peak of the primeval mound. Even the mound itself was described as
The Ancient Egyptians practiced polytheism and believed in many gods and goddesses. One of Egypt’s goddesses was Isis, the goddess of magic and wisdom. Isis, otherwise known as “The Mother of God”, played an important role in Ancient Egypt.
Every country and culture have an origin story they take pride in remembering. Not only do they pride in it, but they also let the stories, and even myths, influence their daily lives. Ancient Egyptians are not exempt of this category. Ancient Egyptians had such a variety of gods to choose from, their mythology almost seems like a godly convenience store.
The importance of religion in ancient Egypt was huge. Egyptians lived their lives through their religion, which was polytheism. The Egyptians based their religion off of many traditions. Which means no change. They were ruled under the Pharaoh’s.
When you praise the Egyptian gods you need to do it right. What ancient Egyptians used to do they praised Egyptian gods. They would build temples in the gods honor. They would also bring gifts to satisfy the Egyptian gods. It’s important because if you go to Egypt you will see them praising and they will wonder why you are not praising the
