What Is My Michigan Hero

A hero is someone that never falls, but gets up again and again, never losing sight of his dreams. My hero is a male, who is 42, stands 6'2 and is very strong and never gives up. He is a person that inspires me to think smart about things like working on stuff, and thinks before you do. My dad makes a positive impact on my life to work hard and stay busy.

Even when I asked him to leave me alone he never let me stay alone he stood in place and said to keep calm and forget it as if it didn't matter at all.

My Michigan hero is one of my friend’s dads. I have many of reasons why he is my Michigan hero, but one big reason is because he saved my life.

The smell of cinnamon engulfed my senses as I sat down on the soft plush couch. It was christmas time, and I could hear my grandma’s voice as she hummed an old Christmas toon. As a young child, her family didn't have a lot of money so she was forced to live off barely anything. she made the best out of her situation, and learned to be happy with what she had. My father was 72-years-old, and he was running the entire family. My sisters used to go to college and then went to work to support the family. When my father had a heart attack, everything shattered. We were struggling pay the rent. My sister, there is no way to explain how important she is to me. Of course she's annoying , but my life would be so boring without her. She's the light in the darkness I honestly wouldn't know what my life would be like without her I can't even imagine it. She is my Michigan hero.

Growing up, my family never really had much. Nearly all our furniture was picked up from the streets and a majority of my brother and I’s clothes were hand-me-downs. To make matters worse, my dad was addicted to gambling and would argue with my mom every night in regards to this issue. After a few years, this led to my family being in major debt and my mom decided it was time for a divorce. My mom raised me and my brother on her own while also working to pay off all the debt. I never realized how hard working my mom was until many years later. She would take me and my brother to school, work a full 8 hour shift at work, sometimes even longer, and go to school to get her associates degree. As a senior in high school, my mother was the colonel of the drill team and was preparing for college when life threw a major curve ball her way. Once she realized she was pregnant with me, she had to change her lifestyle entirely. With no support, financially or emotionally from my father, my mother had to do it “all on her own.” This greatly affected my mother because even to this day she is still playing a role as both a mother and father figure, and has never complained or failed to follow through with any of her responsibilities. Raising me was especially hard for my mother because she lacked financial stability. There were times when she didn’t even have enough money for a bottle of formula. Her parents allowed her to stay at home with them but she was required to pay rent in exchange for my grandmother babysitting me while she worked as receptionist at a local chemical plant.

If you ask any kid who their hero is they will most likely say their parents. And in my case, it’s still my dad. He has overcome a lot of adversities in his life that makes him who he is today, which is my hero. A hero doesn’t have to slay dragons sometimes all they have to do is follow their dreams. They all must go through some difficult times to help them understand that they want something better for themselves and as motivation to get there.

My mother was poor and her mother was poor too and as long as we can trace back my mother family was always poor. My mother was one out of nine children, to be precise she was the 3rd to be born. Unlike other families she didn’t have to work until she was in her late teens but this meant that sometimes they had no food to eat. As a young kid she didn’t have much but as she said “you don’t expensive things to make you happy when you have your family.” Though born in a corrupt and dangerous country she would break from the chains of poverty and live here but not with many sacrifices.
