Africa is known to have many diverse environments, which include arid areas, semi-arid, Tropical rainforests, Savanna, vast swamps and snowcapped mountains in the south of Africa. The first ever civilization in Africa was in Egypt along the river Nile. This civilization later spread to the other parts of Africa. The emergence of civilization in Africa provided a framework for most of developments in African history. There were different setups cultural and political aspects when civilization was emerging.

In the old kingdom, there was no permanent army. Untrained men from villagers were called upon in time of war. Egypt’s natural barriers, the desrt for one, ensured that this didn’t happen very often. The army became professional during middle Kingdom and they fought with no armour. The Pharaoh always led his army into battle, surrounded by a group of soldiers called the ‘Braves of the King’. He rode on a chariot wearing armour and a blue war crown. Army life was tough, with very harsh training and whippings if you did something wrong. Talented soldiers could greatly improve their social position by becoming wealthy.

Egypt has a wonderful geography. It was located in North-eastern Africa. The Nile River was inside of it, and flowed from south to north. Egypt had many mountains, and many desserts. The land bordering the Nile, however was fertile because the river flooded in Akhet, which was one of their seasons. The Nile river opened out into the mediterranean sea. The egyptians also had The Red Sea in their territory. Egypt was divided into two parts, Lower egypt, and Upper Egypt. However, if you look on a map, Lower Egypt was above Upper Egypt. They named it that because the land in Upper Egypt was taller than the land in Lower Egypt.

Egypt is a county whose history dates back to at least 2600 BCE. With that long of a timeline, it is easy to understand how diverse and interesting their history is. The main part of Egypt’s history has been divided into three main sections, the Old kingdom, the Middle Kingdom, and the New Kingdom.
