This will create a basis to build better study techniques. For example a student who has been struggling with listening to lectures can identify his strength as understanding when writing. As such the student can shift to taking notes improving their performance. There are various influences as how somebody develops a certain line best critical thinking. This is based on previous experiences such habitual methods developed and the simple mindset up. Arguments against critical thinking are such as those claiming it is more of a character trait. They claim that nobody can claim to own skills in critical thinking. Well, it a viable point but if it were so why then is it that various people depicts higher levels of thinking in certain conditions. One can be good in visual learning but very poor at reading text. This clearly shows that minds are fine tuned to a specific line of working. Building better study techniques would revolve around study habits and operating with the best channels. In conclusion, critical thinking is an important tool in life as it helps solve matters and challenges facing the society and as such important to identify ones line of optimum mind
It is also a “boundary spanning” activity in that it requires active involvement from people both within and outside of the classroom context, often resulting in participant contributors who represent a variety of generations, ethnicities, social groups, and experience levels (Billig and Furco, 2002, p.vii). Service-learning is designed to reduce the boundaries between an institutional campus environment and the community around it. It is designed to connect learning to real experience through service and reflection (Ball and Schilling, 2006; Becker, 2000). As a baseline to facilitate this development, service-learning is distinct from other types of community service and civic engagement experiences in that the service-learning experience must not only have a service and reflective component but also be clearly tied to the curriculum through learning objectives and theoretical underpinnings (Bloomquist, 2015; Pritchard, 2001). As Barbara Holland, former Director of the U.S. National Service-Learning Clearinghouse, shared, “Service-learning is all in the hyphen. It is the enrichment of specific learning goals through structured community service opportunities that respond to community-identified needs and opportunities.” (Kenworthy-U’Ren, Taylor, and Petri, 2006: 121).

According to Felten and Clayton in the article Service Learning, they discuss with us how beneficial service learning is for students, staff, and community members.The effectiveness in Service learning includes the general community coming together to help serve a greater purpose. In regards to college, service learning serves as and experience to gain partnership and collaboration throughout the experience and community.For my service learning narrative, i chose to volunteer again with Ignite Church at James Monroe Elementary. From 2-4 we worked with a group of 4th graders on different activities that consisted of critical thinking, imagination, and problem-solving. First of all, critical thinking is a way to analyze thinking. To analyze, we need to identify the intended and actual inferential relationships among statement, question, concepts, descriptions or other forms of representation intended to express idea, judgment, experiences, reasons, information, or opinions. Once we get an argument, then we need to analyze if that evidence is true and accurate that can prove the argument is correct. We need to examine ideas, identify arguments and identify reasons and claim. Also, we need to analyze if the premise is persuasiveness or not. Critical thinking is the analysis of an issue or a certain event in which we objectively look over it in order to form a logical judgment or a conclusion. It is an important skill to have because by using it, we can avoid situations which can harm us or cause us to be fooled by people who present wrong information in a way which is appealing to the general public. An example would be when someone who you meet in the streets tries to sell you a drink that can “help you become smart”. Before buying it, do your research on its ingredients and try to find out if this product has been tested or not. Critical thinking is a great tool and if we do not use it, then we will fall prey to ignorance and superstitions.

Critical thinking is a skill needed to improve how a person expresses ideas, and how he or she perceives ideas and composes good arguments. A good argument has a true premise and a proper form that a good critical thinker must be able to put into various logical forms. In order to think critically, a person must understand the logical connections between ideas, comprehend how to construct and evaluate arguments made by others, and identify inconsistencies in reasoning.

Thinking is viewed as a natural thing to do, but to a large extent one's thinking is biased, distorted, partially uninformed or prejudiced. Some of the personal barriers to critical thinking includes; enculturation, self concept, ego defense, rationalization, self serving biases, and emotional influences (Kirby and Goodpaster, 2007). Critical thinking is defined as, "the process of gathering information, analyzing it in different ways, and evaluating it for the purposes of gaining understanding, solving a problem, or making a decision" (Carter, Bishop, and Kravits, 2007). Critical thinking involves more than just thinking. It is a process that has to be practiced in order to be perfected. One has to be able to set aside any personal barriers in order to make the best decision.

The approach of teaching how to think enhances thinking skills. There is an important thinking style that every single student should learn is named critical thinking. People can learn it by applying this approach to education. Tim van Gelder mentions that the fundamental aim of education is to enhance thinking skills, especially critical-thinking skills. He also presses about the necessity of this thinking because many students accept hypothesis without criticisizing and comparing it with others. (41). As he said, critical-thinking, at any level, is needed in education. Besides, this is an issue mostly neglected because it is hard to apply in education because human beings are not natural critics. As long as some knowledges make sense to people, they usually do not make any effort in questioning these knowledges. Thats why learning critical-thinking is not easy that can be done in a couple weeks. Van Gelder also supports this idea by saying ''Although it can be seem quite basic, it actually is a complicated process.'' ( van Gelder, 42 ). He means learning critical-thinking by saying it.
Critical thinking is thought to begin at a young age. When a teacher passes out a test on the first day of school then grades the test and finds the weaknesses of the students so they know what specifically to work on in the future, they are critically thinking but do our instructors encourage us to use critical thinking. Tests are based on facts stemming from what was provided either by the teacher or by a textbook. It is important to challenge students to use more critical thinking, it not only creates a more complete awareness of problems and subjects but a more compassionate outlook on life. This can lead to a more successful education leading into adulthood. It is also important to critically think because when you don’t, you receive information and ideas from other people without creating your own ideas and opinions. This becomes to be known as the status quo.
