Web 2.0 is a read-write program invention that allows those who use it to visit Web pages and leave their own content for other people to view. Facebook has many uses and it has brought many people together throughout the world to reconnect and share interests. When you create a profile on Facebook, you will have a timeline that becomes a chronology of your life. It is a place where you can place your posts, photos, likes, dislikes, and you can update this on a daily or by the moment’s notice. It is important to remember that everything you do on Facebook becomes visible for the entire world to see. We must keep in mind that our privacy can be impacted on Facebook. Dave Awl, author of a book titled “Facebook Me,” suggested that “An ounce of discretion is worth a ton of privacy settings.” (Awl, 2009, p. 52). Facebook does have privacy settings available for us to use, however it is a good rule to follow that there are no secrets. We must post with caution and be responsible while using this social networking program. I have learned that while using the Facebook application it can have both positive and negative results. I promote a music business through Facebook and I have increased my music fan base to a large number of people from all over the world. The growth of social networking is one of the fastest growing digital trends to exist. Many social networking sites boast with millions if not billions of members. Prominent examples of these social sites are Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Members of these networks use them daily to communicate, share various types of information or to collaborate with other members.
Web 2.0 refers to the term given to the second generation World Wide Web, which is majorly focused on giving people the ability to collaborate and share information online. The transition from the old static web pages to the more dynamic and interactive web pages are what are referred to as web 2.0, this websites are well organized and are geared towards delivering of web applications to the users. Web 2.0 brings other improved functionalities like open communication emphasizing on web communities of users and open sharing information with each other. Web 2.0 has become more synonymous as a marketing term. Components of web 2.0 are Wikis, Blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Flickr. There have been discussions of Web 2.0 roots been in development communities for open source software, these communities organize and participate in development of software and ideas and suggestions are shared in real time, and the same would apply for Web 2.0. There are several types of social network applications that are presently available for different categories of people; with the most commonly known applications being Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, WhatsApp, Viber, Skype, Telegram, Twitter, WeChat etc. These applications are used by different people and for different purposes including the provision of email, instant messaging, blogging, voice calls, official communication and sharing of photographic images. As more applications keep been developed for both individual and corporate use, the web of social networking continues to expand and also take on more complexity in form and breathe.
Following the dot com crash in 2001, World Wide Web sites started using technology that went beyond the static pages of the earlier web sites. This was described as Web 2.0 [OREI07]. Through a Web 2.0 site, a user may interact and collaborate with other users thus converting it into a social media dialogue. A virtual community may thus be created which is in contrast to the passive viewing of content in the other earlier web sites. Examples of Web 2.0 include social networking sites like Face book and Twitter, professional networking sites like LinkedIn, blogs, wikis, video sharing sites etc.
Social networking sites peaked the year 2007. These sites encouraged online social connections. Early sites such as SixDegrees.com and Friendster allowed people to manage a list of friends. One drawback to these sites was that they did not offer users the ability to publish content like blogs.

Web 2.0 is the new name given to the second generation of the web. Before Web 2.0, there was web 1.0 which was the first stage of the World Wide Web. The Web 1.0 was made of web pages that were connected all by hyperlinks. Web 1.0 was a static of websites that didn’t provide many features as Web 2.0 does now, such as edit, delete, write content or collaborate with one and another. No interactives were provided by Web 1.0. However, Web 2.0 is where users have many interactives features which allows the user to do more than just read only; web 2.0 allows users to share information online. Web 2.0 allows the user to read, edit, change and share contents on the web. Before the Web 2.0 existed, the only person who could edit, delete, share the content was the owners and the users could only read the content.
