Many people in America are unsure where they belong or where they should be. Some people choose to explore the world by traveling while the others choose to rot in their boring lives. Life in America is hard, there are highly expectations from people and the judgment is in every corner one turns to. The two novels, Travels with Charley and Into the Wild are two unique novels about separate individuals who choose to travel in order to seek what they are looking for. McCandless, from Into the Wild, is a young man who travels to Alaska to seek for the freedom he wanted and to escape from the reality he was living. John, from Travels with Charley, is a retired citizen who decides to go on a journey to witness what the American people have become. John comes across New Orleans, a place in where judgment is an ordinary act of the people. New Orleans is part of the racist south, as for John; he had no negative feeling towards color people. Alaska is a beautiful place to explore due to its nature and wilderness, making it a peaceful place to escape to, while New Orleans is revolved with judgment and discrimination.

The dog functions as a more complex symbol in the story because it simultaneously represents both humanity and nature. On one hand, the dog is clearly affiliated with humanity, due to its signature, “man’s best friend” status in most cultures as well as the fact that it is recognized by the house as the family pet in the story. However, the dog is still an animal that, in the absence of its masters, has reintegrated back into the natural order, coming back to the house after weeks living as a beast of the nuclear wasteland. Despite the concepts of man and nature often dichotomously each other throughout the story, the dog symbolizes the same fate for both. Despite their differences, man and beast have both suffered at the hands on misused technology. The shift of the dog’s status from “large and fleshy” to “gone to bone and covered with sores” shows how the nuclear war has harmed both humanity and nature. When people unleash technology recklessly, humans and animals alike go from a healthy state to a decaying, dying state, just as the dog
“A Healthy Dose of Puppy Love” by Kathryn Satterfield describes a new study that shows that dogs can improve an individual’s health by lowering anxiety levels and by improving cardiac function. Specially trained therapy dogs visited a hospital in November in Dallas, Texas to help conduct a study that animals can improve an individual’s health, to do this people split the seventy six patients into a total of three groups: visitors with dogs, visitors, and an “at rest group.” For accurate results researches preformed anxiety tests on the patients before, during, and after the visit, and the results concluded that patients who received visits from people had encountered a ten percent drop in anxiety, while patients who received visits from dogs

One example of bravery could be kindness.
I have heard the old saying that dogs are man’s best friend. I don’t know much about dogs, but I do know a lot about cats. I have had a cat as a pet for at least 30 years. They are wonderful and I know I will always have one in my life. I think cats make the perfect pet because they are self sufficient, intelligent, and good companions.
The book travels with charley is not just a travelogue, It seems that there is a deeper meaning behind it. The dog owner plays a crucial role on the type of dog your pet will grow up to be. The behavior, attitude and approach of the dog owner will influence what behaviors the dog will be able to emulate. If the dog owner uses physical violence in the training, the dog will also replicate the same aggressive personality. Other negative behaviors of dog owner that may also be modeled by the pet include harassment, constant reprimands and ignoring.
As previously discussed dogs have long since been the faithful companions of humans, so it’s not hard to imagine that they would make the ideal support animals. Today it’s not uncommon to see a dog participating in a wide variety of practical applications, from security, to bomb detection (discussed in the next section). But what’s also very interesting about dogs is that they have the emotional capacity to assist in mental treatment. This section will discuss the the involvement with dogs in the realm of psychology and disability assistance. We’ll be looking at the human-canine relationship in therapeutic sessions, supporting evidence of the psychological benefits of dogs to humans, and supporting roles of dogs for the physically disabled.
