When you drop your Doritos bag or In-N-Out cup, or even a whole Domino's Pizza box out onto the street or sidewalk; you may not think much of it. You might not even think about it again. Because once it’s out of sight, it's out of mind. These things you throw out onto the street can take hundreds, thousands, and even a million years to decompose. Although people don’t dump all their trash in the street; a lot of them throw a few pieces each time, and eventually, it all just accumulates into large strips of trash alongside the street. All this trash in the streets has the potential to cause detrimental effects to our environment. In efforts to reduce the amount trash out in the streets, my partner Erick and I decided to pick up the trash. Unsure of …show more content…
As Erick and I were picking up trash, many people would ask what we were doing, and why. Our response was “We are saving the world.” When other people see someone doing something good, it usually influences them in doing that good thing, or at least gets them thinking. As we were trying to dig under the bush for the pile of cups in the back, some of our peers decided to drop their things and volunteer to help us clean up for a bit. Something about seeing your peers engaging in something good to help the environment encourages them to participate. Educating people on the effects of littering and what it can do to the environment can be a major start in preventing all this accumulating trash in the streets. Letting people know that just one piece of trash will eventually build up and could make them think twice about stuffing the tree with their bag of chips. Or that just one battery or plastic bag or bottle cap we found lying on the back street of Woodley, could have been enough to kill an endangered animal both on land and in the
Although many people lack concern over the removal of their garbage, as modern sanitation systems leave almost no trace of it whatsoever to the common individual; however, as the collected data supports, garbage poses a significant threat to the global environment, as pollution causes damaging consequences around the globe.
Have you ever thought about what the Eastern Shore would look like without so much waste? Throughout the Eastern Shore there is garbage everywhere, all because people don’t think twice about where they put their trash. Littering is a very serious problem it causes pollution, which is the reason for global warming. When you litter you’re polluting the air; polluted air is very dangerous for your body. Also when you litter you may receive a ticket that's not really worth it, when you could throw your trash in the garbage can. So, stop littering and help make the Eastern Shore beautiful again by picking up the trash around you.
Did you know that not bagging your trash is the leading cause of litter in our community? When it is a windy day, and your garbage can is full of un-bagged trash, it is possible that over 5% of your un-bagged trash could spill out into the street while it is being dumped into the truck. While this may not seem like much, it really adds up over time, and be detrimental to our community.
Littering has led to an unpleasant atmosphere and odor in my locality. Pedestrians and Motorists driving through the neighborhood have significantly contributed to the littering problem here in the city of Oakland by flinging away polythene bags with garbage on the streets; rodents and stray animals rip open the bags strewing its contents on the street further denigrating the location. Further the winds blowing take the garbage on the streets and strew it
Would you ever wear a bin bag dress? Slip into a pair of recycled plastic slippers? If the prospect is appealing then you’ll be glad to know that ‘Trashion’ is slowly becoming a reality.
By picking up trash in our county it would give people better health conditions. The amount of trash makes the air less healthy to breathe in and causes the air to carry more bacteria and viruses in the air. Another reason why is because it would make the county cleaner. By picking up the county it would make it look nice which would attract more people and make the county more recognizable for being clean. It will also make the people
Man-made garbage has left lasting negative impacts on the world around us. Most people have seen some kind of PSA about recycling. However, many people don’t think about how trash has affected out economy negatively as well. Throughout the course of only a single day in the United States, nearly 5 pounds of garbage are produced by an individual, which is the highest average among every other country on Earth. Less than 2 pounds of the garbage produced each day is recycled. These numbers add up to 250 million tons of garbage produced by Americans in one year, with only 80 million tons ending up recycled. These numbers are staggering and something needs to be done to combat it. The solution that I am proposing is the enforcement of mandatory recycling and even stricter laws against littering. The advantages of mandatory recycling have many different forms. It would save natural resources as well as further preserve the planet for our descendants. Even if one doesn’t care about the environment, the economic benefits cannot be ignored. The United States’ economy would be strengthened and the average household would save money on goods.
We must keep the area around us clean. All garbage must be thrown in bins. When we throw empty packets, cans, bottles, and other trash on the road, we make our surroundings dirty and untidy.
People tossing out trash means that they don’t care what happens to it as long as it’s out of their car or house. People should think of the impact they can cause the environment if they recycle properly, reusing water bottles, and when they go grocery shopping bring a reusable bags that won’t be thrown out into streams and lakes that will cause pollution to the environment. If someone throws garbage where it shouldn’t belong then throw it out for them to keep the environment clean.
In 2010, Americans produced about 250 million tons of garbage and only 34 percent was recycled. Littering may be small, but when it accumulates it can become a serious issue, which nowadays unfortunately already exists. There’s numerous amounts of negative impacts caused by this matter that not everyone is aware of. These ramifications not only impact the people itself, but animals and environments as well. In addition, this incident has enough power to contribute to other pollution types that exist as well. For example: an article by the Chicago Tribune from 2011, called “Chicago River cleanup required”, states that because of all the waste in the waterways, approximately $72 million will be needed to disinfect these waterways. As any bad
The United States has tried to solve the garbage problems for a long time. Ted Steinberg says “at first [the garbage wars] may have seemed like a simple problem, nothing that could not be solved by a fleet of tractor-trailers carrying garbage to open spaces further south and west” when New York City has faced the lack of the room for trash in the 1990s in the chapter 14 of his book Down to Earth (225). Unfortunately, the garbage has kept causing problems since around the 1940s, the postwar period. It is uneasy to solve this serious problem because several factors, such as consumerism and some relationships on the Earth, are related to each other and make the issue complicated.
For a long time people have polluted our air, by throwing trash everywhere. Now you're probably asking yourselves how am I going to help our environment? Well I have partnered up with Karile Ramirez, we have decided on October 21st we are going to Giant Rock, which is located in Lucerne Valley. We are going to pick up trash for about 5 hours. Before we can move forward their are a few steps we will need to complete before September 23rd. First step, get all items that we will need ex: Trash bags, gloves, water and more. Second step, talk to our parents about buying supplies we will need and where we will be taking and dumping all the trash when we are done. Third step, talk to our parents about transportation on getting to and from Giant Rock.
“The affluent, fast-paced, throwaway American culture is producing trash on a stupendous scale.” (Young,Mitchell page 14). We are living in a plastic universe, and very unaware. The problem with plastic, is how frequently it is being used, and having no true way of disposing it. The fibers of plastic are in just about everything on Earth, not only is it sitting inside the Earth, it is in everything surrounding us. There is plastic materials in food containers, make up, fuel, and so much more. Using science, and technology, we need to find new ways of disposing unwanted shreds of plastic, and other recyclables. Recycling might not get rid of all the issues growing with global warming, but being aware of what is being
What I learned about myself during this project is that littering is a huge problem. Some of us do it without paying attention and some of us do it because we are just lazy. It really isn’t that hard to put trash where it belongs. I need to pay more attention to the long term effects of what I do are. I may say that it’s just one piece of trash, but I’m really just adding to a way bigger
If there is trash on the floor do we simply pick it up and throw it away, or do we leave it there for someone else to do. If everyone in the world had the same thinking mentality of “ It’s just one piece of trash, it’s not hurting anyone or causing a problem”. Do you think it would still just be a piece of trash. To think that, that one piece of trash could help you decide who you’re going to be and how you affect the outcome in you life as well as others. Would you second guess that pieces of trash. Overtime people would walk past that one piece and along the way more pieces of trash began to surround it. To think those people who passed and left their trash would scoff and say it’s just one piece of trash and I am just a person what would it do if I threw away this one piece.
