Education has become a fundamental element of modern society. Therefore, as society progresses, so must education. There are many areas in which education must modernize and improve in order to meet the needs of the new era, the most prominent of which are offering better paths to employment, overcoming the financial boundaries of students, and implementing digital classes. First, education, especially at the higher levels, needs to establish a better path to employment. This connection is necessary to keep education practical and cost-effective. Without a smooth transition into the workforce, higher education simply isn’t financially appealing enough for those who are looking for more than just knowledge, nor is it even a possibility for those lacking the often immense budget required to fund a college education. Education needs to be made available to members of society that have been ignored by the system. These people are generally impoverished and/or immigrants. By aiding the disadvantaged in getting a better education for less, there is more potential for mobility out of poverty. Some aid for education has already been put into use. The SPARK initiative aims to improve the education of young children from poor and disadvantaged communities by engaging parents and the community with the success of the children. This is a necessity for staying relevant in an increasingly internet-dependent society. Those in higher education must not cling to the traditional classroom. Traditional classes may still have their place, but they are becoming increasingly less preferable to hybrid and completely online alternatives. Unlike its traditional counterpart, online education is better suited towards handling a varied demographic of students. Its advantages lie in the flexibility of its schedule. A student who would be working around the usual time a traditional class would be taking place would have a much easier time fitting an online class into their schedule (Britt 31). For those who feel they need the physical interaction with their instructor, many classes are being offered with varying degrees of hybridity between the traditional class and an online class (Britt 33).
