The Patriot Movie Analysis

There are a lot of books and movies about the Revolutionary War. Some of them are more historical fiction, which is what I will be covering in this essay. The novel "My Brother Sam Is Dead" and the movie "The Patriot" have many similarities when it comes to the Revolutionary War. However, the two families have completely different experiences during the war. In the end, both the book and the movie do an excellent job at showcasing the experiences of those fighting in the war.

1776 is a film about the path to American independence. Specifically the actions and conversations that the continental congress took part in. John Adams is the first character that is introduced in the movie. He has proposed the Idea of American independence before the congress 23 times and has been rejected every time because Adams is perceived as obnoxious and disliked within the congress. Adams goes to Benjamin Franklin for help getting congress to listen to him and Franklin suggests that they get Richard Henry Lee to propose Independence instead of Adams, because the congressmen like Lee more than Adams. Richard Lee then proceeds to go to his home colony of Virginia to get approval for the resolution. Lee comes back to Philadelphia

The movie, The Patriot, is the story of a South Carolina plantation owner, Benjamin Martin, who leads a local militia against British troops in the South during the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. Martin, who is a widower with six children and a veteran of the French and Indian War, wants nothing to do with the war until a brutal British Colonel, William Tavington, kills one of his sons and takes his eldest son, a member of the Continental Army, prisoner. Martin, who’s character is loosely based on Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, uses guerrilla warfare to cut British supply lines and attack outposts in an attempt to slow General

The film 1776, directed by Peter H Hunt, produced by Columbia Pictures, and starring actors such as William Daniels, Howard Da Silva, Ken Howard, and more is a comedic and musical retelling of the events and struggles occurring in congress leading up to the declaration of the USA’s independence from Britain. The film takes place during 1776 in Philadelphia, mostly within the Carpenter’s Hall where the Second Continental Congress was held. While it only took place within Philadelphia, it was able to present the attitudes of the different colonies through the delegates.

Today in time guerrilla warfare is used by one of the strongest armies of the world. These tactics were used even back during the revolutionary war. In the movie the Patriot, this movie portrays the fight during the revolutionary war and the battles and the horror they faced. The battlegrounds used in the war were a person's backyard. This new idea of guerilla warfare brought to the war was unconventional and efficient. There were small militias taking out countless redcoats. Although it wasn't the traditional form of fighting it worked. In the movie, the militia was led by Benjamin Martin. General Martin and his militias tactics were honorable.

Movies are made to be sold and not history to be perfectly told. If movies include a complete history, it wouldn't be known as a movie anymore. However, it would be called a documentary, which most people get fed up of. So interpretations, exaggerations and idealistic scenes are added to the movie to make it more interesting for the audience. "The Patriot" is a similar film made during the modern day time about a time period in which none of the experienced the real revolution. Politically, socially, and culturally, "The Patriot" attempts to give a sense of the scope of aspects involved in the American Revolution. Despite succeeding in this regard, it still lacks details that reveal the true complexity of the mixed sentiments present in

The American Revolution was a great mark in history because the colonist were striving to get their independence from Great Britain. From seeing many films the revolution was a harsh and emotional time. Many families suffered from the deaths of their husbands and fathers. Soldiers dealt with hunger and bad conditions, but the end it was worth the suffering because America got its independence. The Patriot helped developed the appreciation and understanding of the American Revolution. The scenes from the Patriot that increased the understanding of the American Revolution was the Strategy behind the Battle of Cowpens, Siege of Yorktown, and The Revolutions Divides Families, Friends, and Villages.

There were also differences in these movie though like where in the Patriot The main focus of the movie was independence through war where in 1776 film they were getting independence through the Declaration of independence. The Main characters were also going through different things, in the movies in the Patriot, the main character was a farmer that had war background and 2 of his sons died because of war, but they at least died fighting for independence. In the film 1776 the main character had a family he had to leave to go vote for independence and most of his children were very ill. Also in the Patriot most of the scenes were in the battle field or on the farms, where in the film 1776, they were mostly in the town and inside the meeting house. The film 1776 also mentioned slavery and they have a whole scene on it where in the Patriot didn’t talk about it or worry about it.

The American Revolution is almost like the civil war but, it is split in three parts instead of two, happened in late 1700s. The movie, The Patriot, is a fictional movie that shows us the battles and life during American Revolution. Some people were forced to fight because their family members died and some did not fight because they did not wanted to risk their family even though both sides are die-hearted patriot. Family could make people do anything. The producers of the movie The Patriot, Dean Devlin, Mark Gordon, and Gary Levinsohn, chose a composite of different colonists, like Francis Marion, Colonel Daniel Morgan, Elijah Clark, Thomas Sumter, and Andrew Pickens, to make Benjamin Martin look better and the hero with no fault what-so-ever.

The Patriot was set in 1776 in the colony of South Carolina. Benjamin Martin was a veteran of the French and Indian War, and since then he had been against fighting until the war began to affect his family. The first portion of the movie shows how Benjamin tries to protect his seven children and shield them from the war. However, when his eldest son joins the army he is forced to be involved. Benjamin leads a militia against the cruel British army to fight for America’s independence. He regains his patriotism when he realizes that helping his struggling nation will help his family.

“The Patriot” and “1776” are two movies that are about how the United States Of America started. The movie ‘1776’ is about how the Declaration was created and how the Congress had to debate on being Independent from Britain. The movie “The Patriot” is about the Revolution. It is based on what the war looked like and all the battles that were fought for Independence. They both have a few things in common too. They both have the same concept but have many different details.

To start with, the military aspect of the movie was accurate in its treatment of slaves, and the depicted actions of soldiers. The Patriot was correct in showing that both sides committed war atrocities. The colonists when they were shown killing surrendering British soldiers, and the British when they burned people alive in the church. In the article by Slate, it states that both the British and Americans did commit war crimes by killing those who surrendered, but there was no mention of any general locking civilians in a church and burning it. Another way The Patriot was correct, was in the way it depicted the treatment of slaves. The movie shows one slave being forcibly enlisted by his master. Later, he learns of the freedom and payment he may earn shall he continue to serve in the Continental Army. At the end of the movie it

The movie in which I chose to do my movie analysis on was not one from the list provided. However, it is one of my all-time favorite movies The Band of Brothers a miniseries by HBO. I chose to do this one over the other because not only is it very entertaining and keeps you want to watch more, just to see what happens to everyone invaded but also because of the history be hide the story. The fact that they used real life experiences to help make the film just made it that much better. I watch The Band of Brothers at least a few times a year so I was happy to do this assignment.
