Being called a disgrace can be hurtful, but are you actually one? In the book, The outsiders, there are two groups of people that are called Greasers and Socs. Characters in the novel tend to believe that Greasers are troublemakers and Socs are the higher class teens. Socs are a disgrace because of their actions and attitudes. The Socs are a disgrace because they beat up greasers based off of their money issues and the side of a city they live on. If you are someone who is rich like a soc and is in a better environment and situation you are expected to be more respectful. Teens with a strong foundation are more responsible, and kids who have no parents or anyone that is a positive role model end up doing more of what they want. Kids that grow up on a wrong side of town tend to make the most crimes based off of how they were raised. As a Soc, they are being a disgrace by the way they act. Most people in this novel think that Greasers are a disgrace, but no one notices how badly the Socs treat Greasers. The socs bully greasers and that could be causing more anger to build in the greasers that cause them to act out. Socs verbally and physically abuse them, it’s one thing to steal but it’s another when you hurt someone mentally or physically on purpose. I’ve seen with my own eyes that kids who have been hurt by others or their parents cause them to act out and do things they normally wouldn’t do because of their built up anger. No one knows what happens at home for a
). This implies that the Socs have nothing to do, so they resort to tormenting the unprivileged instead of doing anything worthwhile. The Greasers constantly receive the blame when the Socs start a fight, and the Socs use society's prejudice against children like the Greasers when the police arrive. For example, the Socs "get editorials in the paper for being a public disgrace one day and an asset to society the next" (Hinton 3). This means everyone excuses their mistakes and blames it on the Greasers, and the Socs use mindsets like those to their advantage. When compared to living life in hardship and trying to survive, misusing privilege instead of using it to improve society is far worse, and, similarly, the way they fight is immoral.
In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, the Socs are the ones to blame for all of the problems. After all they are the cause of the rumble. The Socs are no good drunk 24/7 idiots who need to turn their ego down, and intelligence up. They screw up MANY times in the book. Yah yah, greasers are not perfect, but at least they have some common sense. And I’ll tell you why the greasers are innocent and the Socs are not.
An example from the book is how in the beginning of the book the Socs had jumped Ponyboy. Ponyboy didn’t even do anything to infuriate the Socs or have a fight, the Socs just did it just because. The Socs and Greasers are rival gangs and the Socs just wanted to pick up a fight because that is what the Socs do. The Greasers later come in to help Ponyboy and scare the Socs off. This means that the Socs think that violence is fun when really it isn’t. The Socs are sort of picking on the Greasers just because they know they are better which bring me to my next point about the Socs which is
One of the main ideas of S.E. Hintons book The Outsiders focused on how greasers were “victims of their environment”, as the story is told through a greaser’s perspective. This means that the greasers have faced many negative forces in their community, and have been seemingly powerless to overcome them. One example that was used to show this was stereotyping. The greasers and Socs were categorized based on where they live, what they look like, how they act, and how much money they have. The plot of the Outsiders mainly revolves around how the greasers are affected by social, emotional, and economical events and how these events have made them who they are. This then affects how they become “victims of their environment”. However, I believe that the Socs were, in their own way, victims of their environment as well.
In a story, there is usually a bad side of people, also known as villains and there are good people which are known as heroes. Sometimes you aren’t really sure who is bad and who is good. In this book there really shouldn’t be an argument, but there is. In the book the villains are the Socs and the hero's are the Greasers. There can be many reasons to prove that the Socs are more of a menace to society than the Greasers and here are some. The first reason of why the Socs are a more of a disgrace than the Greasers is because they are more violent than the Greasers. A second reason why the Socs are more of a disgrace the Greasers is because they think they are better than everybody else in the world, they are very arrogant, which is not a good thing. The final reason of why the Greasers are less of a disgrace than the Socs is because they don’t care about anybody but themselves, they don't care about their actions or whatever they are doing to the community. With all of these facts provided this basically just makes the Socs more of a menace to society than the Greasers, no
Soc’s. Greaser’s. Two different groups who are just teenagers trying to find their way in life and who all have their problems. The book The Outsiders written by, S. E. Hinton, is based on a true story and how two different social groups interact. The wealthier, classier group with Mustangs and madras shirts are called the “Socs.” The less wealthier, greasy, slicked-back hair group are called “Greasers.” Both groups are stereotyped by society. Greasers are prone to crime and Socs are spoiled and can’t do anything wrong. The Outsiders has multiple themes, one is that loyalty between people can keep each other from getting hurt. Another is how the reputations people hold aren’t always accurate. Both play roles in changing the lives of the characters in the book.
According to Frederick Douglass, “Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe.” Douglass spoke of the danger and issues of organization and separation by class, yet it is the scenario depicted in The Outsiders. The Outsiders is a coming-of-age novel written by S. E. Hinton in the 1960s. In The Outsiders, the teenagers of a city are being ripped apart by a violent feud based solely on social class. The first group, known as the Socs, are the wealthy and popular. The second group is the Greasers, who are poor and viewed as the scum of the city. The
However, the Soc are looked as these rich, smart people. The Soc don’t act their own self they try to be someone who they aren’t. They make sure not to show their true self. “Soc were always behind a wall of aloofness” [Doc C]. The Soc act the same as the greasers, but they are rich.
Socs are the upper class outsiders that don't have it that rough. Socs are very negative and uninfluential people that smoke, fight, and drink. The Socs wear Leather jackets and sweatshirts with cut sleeves, anyone could consider these boys outsiders because of the way they act.
People think that the Socs are the good guys because they dress nice and don’t cause problems in the community. Throughout the book, there were many themes addressed but the two themes that stood out the most were violence between the Socs and the Greasers and both groups feeling isolated from
“We’re gonna do you a favor, greaser. We’re gonna cut off all that long greasy hair off.”.” This means that despite the Soc’s high class they can be downright nasty. It is also said in the book that they drink alcohol, smoke, and like to pick on less wealthy students at the school. What most Soc’s actually do is of a stereotype of a Greaser. An example of this could be certain celebrities or athletes. They are prominent and seen as role models to this generation. However, some do decide to do bad things such as drugs. This has to do with the Soc’s because they do terrible things to the Greasers. Celebrities tend to get involved in drama with other celebrities whether it be career-related or not. S.E. Hinton fought against stereotypes based on appearance by creating the group of
Socs are referred to as elitists because they are not given any rules to stand on by parents or guardians unlike people like Ponyboy who is given multiple limits and rules by Darry about his school work or other things, Socs think that they are better than the Greasers because of their money and because they can get away with anything they want. This could probably be a reason why the Socs are so cruel and violent, because they were never taught otherwise by their parents, or given rules to stand on. Their money that is just handed to them is another reason they are shown as elitists, even though they don’t even need to work for their money it is just handed to them by their parents. The Soc’s money shows dominance towards Greasers, and its because of their money it puts them above the Greasers.
Greasers vs Socs I think that the Greaser’s had it tougher because the Soc’s were rich and they could afford anything so they could live. The Greaser’s and Soc’s do not like eachother so its hard for the Greaser’s to go anywhere because the Soc’s could jump them. The Greaser’s did not have money, and would always get jumped by the Soc’s. The Greaser’s have more feelings than Soc’s do. You may think Soc’s have it harder because they get jumped to and some have to work to get money.
The Socs are very different than the Greasers. One of the noticeable differences is they are more rich. They like to wear madrass and like to drive expensive cars. Socs are better known as good kids of the city. They are more rich which gives them benefits. They live in the wealthy side of town where life is good. Socs usually pick on the Greasers. They are not kind towards each other and they have a feud. Many Socs are manipulative because they can get out of trouble easier than Greasers because they have money and respect. Socs are able
The Socs are a richer gang, they live in the good part of town. The Socs always get what they want because they are richer, and can afford to do anything. They hate just about every part of the greasers. They don't like the Greasers because they think all the Greasers want to do is take their girls. “Need a haircut greaser?” (S.E. Hilton 5) The Socs have so much time and
