A student gets pushed into a locker, the instigator takes the child’s shirt and pulls it. “Where did you get this shirt from, five below?” The other people surrounding the child laugh. Now that same child runs home to his mother crying in tears. The child proceeds to tell him about his day whimpering word after word. A mother struggling to pay for the house now feels obligated to buy her child more expensive clothes just because they were picked on. When I was in middle school I had uniforms for about four years and it made me hate school even more. None of the benefits that administration said we would get from uniforms ever materialized. They said it would put an end to bullying and we would still have some kind of freedom when it came to picking accessories. The uniforms were costly for my parents and as a student it made it hard for me to express myself. With that being said middle school students should not be required to wear school uniforms.

While not everyone agrees at making school uniforms mandatory, it’s a way to keep the discipline within the school system. Although, it seems many parents do not care what their child wears to school; school staff members feel its need to keep them from constantly reminding student of the dress code on a daily basis. However, some parents feel that this is something that need to be reconsidered by all, for it’s the right thing to do; to keep discipline alive in the schools everywhere. Students today come to school wearing things that should only be worn in the privacy of their homes, but feel it’s also acceptable for school; things like torn clothing, short shorts, revealing blouses; or pants to the knees for the guys. Really, what happened to respect and dignity; or did that fly out the window long ago. Apparently, because parents are afraid to voice their opinions to their child; and lets them take control over their word. Parents seem to close their eyes to reality, and feel it’s the child’s right to wear what they like to school. Have they even taken the time, to pay close attention to what their child is
In the past, school uniforms have been a requirement for private schools only, however; the number of public schools mandating uniforms is growing quickly. Many public schools endorsed school uniforms after then-President Bill Clinton sustained uniforms in his 1996 State of the Union address: “I challenge all our schools to teach character education, to teach good values and good citizenship. And if it means that teenagers will stop killing each other over designer jackets, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear school uniforms.” In statistics it shows,” since 1999 the percentage of all U.S. public schools enforcing dress codes increased by 11.1% by 2014” School uniforms have been a rising major debate for years. Most schools say that by wearing uniforms it will make the school more united, but the only thing they do is bother students, and make parent’s spend a lot of money. Most schools in America have a school uniform or school dress code. These dress codes usually consist of blue, green, white, red, or black collared shirts and khaki pants or shorts with close toed shoes. In some cases, girls admit that being told to change or being sent home sometimes lowers their self esteem, especially when the boys are also breaking dress code but are not getting in trouble for it. Girls are told that a boy’s education is more important than their own. Even though most young men will admit they are not distracted by the clothing girls wear, the excuse, “boys will be boys” is used to disregard their behavior and are not punished for their actions. Young women are being sexuallized for the clothing they wear and are being told they need to cover up for the sake of their safety, instead of teaching young men to control themselves.
I was 7 years old when I first started wearing a uniforms at my school in Meridian , India. My morning routine was quite simple. Then we'd have a leisurely breakfast where she'd make me my favorite chocolate chips pancakes and I would head to school. At school,I would to see my friends and classmates wearing the exact same white button down shirt paired with a navy blue skirt and a navy blue tie , and black shoes; We all looked the same. Nobody made fun of each other, we didn’t compare ourselves and no one picked on someone else because of their appearance. I didn't care what I was wearing or how I looked as all my friends would also be wearing the same clothes as I did.
