A common misconception is that dancers do not need strength training because bulging muscles are contradictory to the smooth, elongated lines of the dancer aesthetic. In actuality, there are two types of muscles that can be built: slow and fast muscle fibers. Slow muscles are leaner and are more flexible. Fast muscles are the ones that bulge; they are used largely in jumping, hence male dancers having large quadriceps that aide in their high jumps. Resistance training is often used as a way to increase muscle strength without increasing muscle mass in a drastic way. The goal of this topic of “What is education in Physical education” is to try and explain what physical educators are actually teaching students. For this project, we are focusing on cognitive and affective learning styles within physical education. The article Kyla looked at was “The Importance of the Affective Domain in the Education of Physical Educators.” The purpose of her article was to look at the importance of affective goals and objectives related to the training of future physical educators (Woodford, 1979). The affective domain looks at attitudes, feelings, interests and values of the learned. It is best viewed as the way a person feels rather then how they think (Woodford, 1979). The goal for physical educators should be to cover all areas of learning, which helps adjust a person’s value of physical education (Woodford, 1979).
The current education system can be described as a structured blueprint with the overall aims of shaping a child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development and behaviour. Learning is the core focus of schooling, where classrooms are expected to be a place learners develop and acquire skills, habits and knowledge on a regular basis (Demirel, 1993). Within the curriculum, Physical Education (PE) is acknowledged as a unique module in which individual’s acquire physical, social and mental skills through physical activity (Lumpkin, 1998). There has been an increasing number of research surrounding different teaching styles within the education system, and which is more effective in enhancing learning. Jaakkola & Watt (2011), argued that teachers should have the ability and skillset to adapt their teaching styles to suit the learning needs of their students. This was also supported by Kulina and Cothran (2003), who suggested that an effective approach to pedagogical practice is to use a number of different teaching styles.

When you do ballet you have to use your thigh muscles, your back muscles, your triceps, your core (more commonly known as your abs), your glutes, and many others that I can’t name. Most of these are used in a simple pliè. In ballet you also have to learn muscle control so you can look elegant while dancing. There are many ways that we strengthen our muscles but these are the most common workouts. For our core we use crunches, planks, and bicycle crunches, for our arms we do push-ups (girl, wall, or normal ones), for our legs we do squats and we work with bands.
