Ethics is neither right nor wrong but a set of principles that guides us as we maneuver through the daily decisions. It is important to understand that business conduct must follow and hold compliance with the law.
Professional ethics are the standards and principles of behavior adopted by members of an occupation. Professional ethics are followed in conjunction with the ethical culture of an organization.
A stakeholder is someone that has a vested interest in the outcome and success of an organization. Due to the nature of interest the stakeholder has, it is important that the leadership of an organization listens to, respects and maintains open lines of communication.
Code of Ethics
A code of ethics has been established to provide moral and behavioral guidelines that are to be followed by AAA Colorado’s board members, executive staff and all exempt and non-exempt employees. Principles are found within the code that reflect the behaviors expected of all AAA Colorado employees.
While holistic in nature, the AAA Colorado Code of Ethics does not serve as an all-inclusive policy and should be supplemented with ongoing ethics training.
Board members, executive staff and all exempt and non-exempt staff are expected to abide by the following behavioral principles:
1. Follow the Code of Ethics policy at all times.
2. Implement and be accountable for an ethics hotline.
3. Implement and follow a
The American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Code of Ethics is a list of principles set forth to guide healthcare executives in their daily practice. The Code of Ethics clearly defines the behavior and performance standards required by those performing the duties of healthcare executives. The ACHE Code of Ethics is designed in a way that clearly directs healthcare executives in their interactions with patients, employees, and the community. The ACHE Code of Ethics also clearly defines the responsibilities of the healthcare executive to the profession of healthcare management and also the responsibilities of the healthcare executive to the organization, as well as the
Some things change, some things stay the same. The National Education Association (NEA) adopted a code of ethics in 1975 (Strike & Soltis 2009, p. viii). While this code still upholds many concerns that educators face today, it is important to make sure that a code of ethics is a breathing document. It must adapt and change with the changing of time. Strike and Soltis (2009) reference the code of ethics quite regularly throughout the entire book. It is first introduced in full at the beginning of the book. Looking over the code, it is important to remember that much has changed since it was first adopted. While all of the code still applies, it is necessary to add to the code to make it acceptable for the twenty-first century.
The organizational ethics polices of this organization is based on developing an ethical climate. This climate is one where everyone---leadership, staff, contractors, vendors, customers, and the public---is treated with the utmost respect. This organization has a zero tolerance for rude and/or discourteous actions, or any signs of disrespect. No type of aggressive behavior, whether in person, writing, by phone, computer, or any device, or failing to assist when danger is present, is
There were many standards I did not expect to be on the code of ethics because they seen to be common sense. The first being 1.12, avoiding the illegal use and distribution of controlled substances and abuse of prescription drugs and toxic inhalants; in addition to 1.13
A philosophy of an organization helps differentiate themselves from their competitors and set a foundation for future success. It also helps shape an organization by presenting the goals they want to accomplish with specific activities. To improve this, many organizations understand the important of sharing values and goals and realize employee recognition. This helps staff from moving forward toward success of the organizations. Chapter 4 introduces “Codes of Ethics in Health Services.” Code of ethics is a guideline for healthcare professionals to accomplish and serve as a member of a society. Similar to other professions, managers have their own code of ethics in maintaining their duties and responsibilities. They also use the codes for ethical decision-making in dealing with ethical issues. Chapter 5 deals with “Organizational Responses to Ethical Issues.” It provides assistance for managers and organizations in their decision making. It is manager’s duty to figure out the problem and resolve it (Darr, 2011,
Ethical code guidance initiates with one’s individual standards, views, and integrity. I must live our lives balanced with what I’ve been shown to be correct. The Principles are the ideologies of what I consider to be ethical or unethical that are revealed through my decisions, actions and interpretations of what is right or wrong. The Florida Code of Ethics involves one’s values and beliefs to indicate a set of policies that standardize the bearing of entities or groups of people (FLDOE, 2005).
It is important for businesses and professionals to be versed in ethical issues because it helps with decision-making when faced with different situations that create a moral dilemma. Business and professional ethics help to develop a certain moral standard and expectation in the business world. The ethics in which a business or a professional operates within benefits both the giver and receiver. Engaging in the exchange of goods, services and information requires some level of trust in order to maintain civility. The thought that a person or a business is doing things that are unethical
Ethics is the process of doing right or wrong. It assists a person in the deciding if something is moral or immoral or if it is socially desirable (Dess, McNamara, & Eisner, 2016, p. 368). A person can get his or her ethics from religious beliefs, heritage, family, the community, education and friends. Organizational ethics is the values, attitudes and behavioral patterns defined by the organizations culture. Organizational ethics determine what is acceptable behavior.
It provides health-care professionals with ethical principles and standards by which to guide their practice. There are boundaries to the roles most of the codes can be used within. The expectation of what an ethical code can do changes depending on how ethical code in general is understood (Troy & Beringer, 2006).From my conclusion an ethical code can establish important values and describe a common ethical background for health care but is of limited use with solving new ethical problems.
2. The facility administrators will train its employees and it will sponsor yearly training classes.
Ethical behavior is virtuous and beneficial for business in any type of organization. In healthcare, the outcomes are improved patient care, dedicated staff and healthcare providers, and amplified market share. It obliges leaders, managers, directors, and supervisors to have a comprehensive interpretation of the role of ethical decision making (Winkler, 2005). Ethical health care organizations have incorporated and combined ethical practices and values, continuing education on ethics for everyone involved, successful ethics substructure, and morally spirited and dauntless leaders (Winkler, 2005). These organizations have a vision and statements that directs behavior and decision making.
When it comes to having a Code of Ethics, each one is different depending on the field or profession that one is going into. Some are long to get the point across and to cover everything, others are short because there is not much to say about the field. When it comes to the National Press Photographers Association, their Code of Ethics, is not that long nor that short. It get’s straight to the point and simple and easy to understand.
Ethics are the principles and values an individual uses to govern his activities and decisions. In an organization, a code of Ethics is a set of principles that guides the organization in its programs, policies and decisions for the business. The ethical philosophy that is used by an organization to conduct business can affect the reputation, productivity and bottom line of the business (1).
Being that I work for Starwood Hotels and Resorts, I decided it would be fitting to use their code of ethics since I hope to one day be a leader within the company. We recently held a general managers conference at my property where all the general managers and leaders from our brand came together to discuss future changes and plans. Meeting the different individuals and hearing them speak about their expectations, goals, and love for the brand and employees made me realize that our company has a great set of leaders. The Starwood Code of Ethics states, “Above all else, we act with integrity, keep high standards and use good judgment. We define success as achieving our goals while conducting our business with the highest moral and ethical standards. (Do The Right Thing, Wherever You Are, 2012, p. 6)”
When working in an organization, it is usually important to establish professional ethics while following consistent ethical principles. Professional ethics are personal and corporate standards of behavior that are set by businesses, associations, and organization. It creates an institution that reflects our own values and make us feel more confident about what is an acceptable behavior and what is not. This type of ethic could vary depending on the various types of situations, professions, and personal values. Many professionals that are trusted by the public like doctors, accountants, engineers and even an information technologist all have a Code of Ethics, which sets out expectations of the member’s behavior and how they operate internally and externally.
