Grandjean (1981, p.1057) places careers at “the intersection of societal history and individual biography”. Changes in context do impact on careers, however, the extent to which they do so in isolation is difficult to measure. One of the toughest questions almost every American citizen has ever come across is the question of whether to choose a career you are passionate about or one that pays very well. A select few are very passionate about their careers that pay quite well, these people are extremely fortunate. I propose that one should always choose the career that he or she is most passionate about, regardless of the how much that job pays.

Katherine Boo’s book, Behind The Beautiful Forevers, portrays the “new life” the people in India live as capitalism and globalism ventures into their lives. These two systems look to promise new and improved social opportunities for all classes, not just the wealthy. However, although this makes it seem like the government of India in the 21st century is progressing towards a more fairer society for all its citizens, the reality is, they are really not progressing at all. Of course, while capitalism and globalization initially gave all citizens, especially the lower classes, hope that more opportunities would be available to them, it seems it has prevaricated it all as these opportunities have been more transformative to the elite and privileged classes than it has for the poor.

Poverty and oppression is a serious condition that is prevalent even in today’s modern society. Women and children are exposed to poverty and subjected to a life of injustice. One of the countries where such problems still occur is in India. Despite the country’s modernization, there lies an undercity where the disparity of wealth is transparent. These social problems are thoroughly described in movies and literature such as Slumdog Millionaire and Behind the Beautiful Forevers. In the book Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Catherine Boo, the author describes slum life for a set of individuals and the hardship that their social conditions confined them to. Another movie that gave insight to slum life in India is Slumdog Millionaire

Social Work is a profession concerned with helping individuals, families, groups and communities to enhance their individual and collective well-being. I chose to seek a degree in this field because I find this to be a very rewarding career choice. To obtain a degree in a career that essentially makes a difference in people’s lives is extremely important to me. I have worked as a medical assistant for over 10 years, and although I love my job I would like to work closer with the people that I serve. I realize from working with people with intellectual disabilities that my passion lies with helping and assisting individuals. It takes a special person to work in social services because this is a field where advocating and assisting are a forte. I would like to obtain my Bachelors of Art in Social Work and work with children. After, I have worked in the field for at least a year I would like to continue postgraduate studies in lure of earning my master’s in social work. My ultimate goal is to obtain both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work and specialize in case management assisting both children and veterans.

Income inequality is gaps between income earners (Fisher, 2011). For decades, it has been worsened and damaged society. Income inequality, gaps between high income earners and low income earners, causes social dissatisfaction, wealth polarization, and reduction of social mobility.

While I was in college, I felt like working with children was something that I wanted to do. There are many different career paths one could take if they want to work with children. I love sports, so I decided that recreation would be a path that would allow me to work with children doing something that I love to do. For the past twelve years, I have had the opportunity to work with the residents of Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch. I work in the Youth Activities Department and my job is to provide sports programming for our pre-adolescent population. However, I am in more of an administrative role where I oversee the program the children participate in. The time I actually have working with them one-on-one or in small groups is limited. I have

Notably, as time passes by, the economic gaps continue to widen, characterized by those that are continuously becoming prosperous and powerful, while others are held by a stagnated income and the ever raising economic pressure, whereas another lot is left behind in as they languish in the ever growing poverty, dependency, and hopelessness. This has seen an increased in concern among various stakeholders, including academicians, strategyfabricators, and legislators that poverty and disparity is no longer to belook at as an easy social issue that are safely to be subordinated to essentialsecurities in exploiting economic outputs.

As a senior in high school I am very eager to graduate and pursue a career. I have multiple options that I'm still deciding on but know for sure that the medical field is where I belong. I am already planning on getting my CNA license during the summer of 2018 to prepare me for the nursing program. I have three potential career paths that I would like to pursue but choosing which one to take will be the hard part. The first career path is getting a BSN at IUPUI then going on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing or earn a Doctor of Nursing Practice. Being a nurse practitioner would allow me to work alongside a doctor or open my own practice.

I cant believe it’s the end of this semester. One last chance to get this grade up. I cant believe one grade could possibly hold me back from all my dreams. Since I was little all I wanted to be was football player. Are star quarterback is graduating this year, and now it’s my time to shine. It’s hard to say I don’t know what I want to do when I finish college. I’m suppose to have this idea of what I want to do for the rest of my life and be devoted to that career for the rest of my life. “So, what have you decided to study?” is a question I have heard from parents, teachers, grandparents, uncles, aunts, friends, co-workers, and just about everyone else that says they know me. I don’t know how I am supposed to just know what I will do for the rest of my life. Choosing ones career should be a decision based over a long period of time, and after being exposed to many different experiences. And in order to acquire the best career for yourself you must make the decision, only you know what is best for you.

The start of this project began in early October, and for the most part it was a relatively simple course of action to be prepared, coordinated, and reported for the majority of the school year. Its themes and priorities were simple in theory, however—volunteer, research post-graduation opportunities and ideas, and for the most part settle with a plan on how to address adulthood and future prospective careers and education.
